Stradic 5000 Whats your thoughts?

Hey folks,

Got the buying itch and have been thinking about the Shimano Stradic 5000 for a bit more serious LB SP and Lure flicking and occasional boat use.  Budgets tight, but from what I've read, good value for money reel.  Anything anyone whos owned / used these reels got to share, and best braid line option eg 20lb finns??

Cheers!

Had the ci4 4000 out the last few weekends and it is unreal!!!! got it loaded with 30 pound braid and cant fault it.

We set the drag on it to around 5 kilo last night and hooked up with a nice little sambo which had it screaming, smoooth real and recommend them strongly.

Great value for money

Sun, 2011-07-31 20:48

reel mate as you said, ive flogged one in Exxy and Perth for the last 18 months on a Nitro Viper and its been flawless, except for one of the drag clickers breaking on a Spango in exxy this year. With a spare spool, and under $200, they are THE best value for money reel out there all the way through the sizes. I have one spool with 15lb and one with 20lb.

there awsome reels

i own a 4000

they can handle a big fish, there really smooth

on my 4000 ive caught a big rays in the sound and rotto, 1m bronzie's, big black ass, snapper etc

a 5000 stradic would be a good choice

u can have heavier line on it, i would go about 30lb on a 5000

Would be a perfect reel for LB Sp's and lures. As others have said, great value reel that won't let you down. I've got a 2500, 4000, 6000 and 8000 and never had a problem with any of them. Prob run some good 30lb casting braid. Depends on your budget for what braid to go for.

probably my favourite reel

Mon, 2011-08-01 08:53

I love my 5000.  I run 30lb braid (I think finns) with a 10kg t-curve and it has managed a couple of pinkies and a few rays and sharks.  I set the second reel up with 6lb mono and picked up my PB black bream with it not long ago.  I have been told to upgrade to some carbon washers, but haven't done so yet - not sure what they are or where to get them - but haven't needed them, although I might regret it when a big sambo picks up my scaly and goes for a swim??

My Favourite too

I run mine with 30lb fireline. Only had it a short time, but its landed some sambo's with no issues. I haven't upgraded the washers either, I don't think its really required. it has the stopping power as it is, and it is always smooth as, never sticky.

Yeah another +1 for me on the Stradic 5000.

A much better choice than the Gosa 5000 in my opinion. Gosa 5000 weighs as much as the 8000 and is a massive thing. The Stradic 5000 body is build off the 4000 size unit, so much lighter than a Gosa 5, and actually has a bit more capacity also.

Plus two spools!

I have the 8000 and have knocked over some very serious fish with it. Upgraded to carbontex washers though.

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

ok I have the only bit of slightly bad feedback, i have the 5000 and is is great apart from one small detail, i think the bail arm spins too close to the rod and at times it has taken skin off my nuckles. i still use and love the reel and it has caught me some great fish. i have just had to be carefull where i  place my hand when working a sp.

I recently brought the stadic

Mon, 2011-08-01 13:34

I recently brought the stadic 4000 Fi of a fellow fishwrecked member . Bloody smooth reel. I have it spooled with 20 lb pink bionic braid and matched to it to a eupro salty fighter rod , which I am dying to recieve and get using . But alround from what everyone is saying here they are a very good reel , besides spendings big bucks on stellas :P

i have 2 mate, 1 on a monster mesh max pe3 and one on a demon blood pe2-3, personaly i love em and good price at that.

i do prefer the more stiffer mm max than the d/blood but the reels are silky smooth.

cant go wrong i reckon!!

Great Reel

Sat, 2011-08-20 12:44

I have just bought the 8000 for the missus and I have used it more than her. Just find myself asking...do you want me to use that one... Great reel, excellent value an the 2 spools can have you setup for anything. I got mine from the US to save a few extra bucks. Bout $137 to the door. Cant complain with that.

 stradics are awesome reels

Sat, 2011-08-20 20:23

stradics are awesome reels mate i personally own a couple and have many mates that also have them and we're all more than happy with the perfomance. but as for ur braid pick id stay away from fins ay ive worked at a tackle store and it never had good feed back and my mate just sppoled his 6000 strad with 20lb fins and it started turning to shit instantly. for reasonably priced braid that performs well id suggest getting tufline ive used it plenty of times and it always fishes well!

anyways thats my opinion.

Ci4 is just a lot lighter

Sun, 2011-08-21 11:42

Ci4 is just a lot lighter because of the material it is made of, which is great for the 1000 and 2500 sizes, but the pressure put onto a 4000 causes them to flex a little because of the material it is made of, but everyone i know raves about the Ci4.
