STRANGE FINDS IN YOUR OWN BACK YARD.

Was out in the back yard over the weekend and after a bit of a clean up I found the bung off our boat that we sold about 2 1/2 years back.
hope the bloke that bought it got a new one before launching

When we cleared the room for our pool we found a large number of semi-antique bottles (guessing round WW2 era or a little before). One of the owners must have chucked any bottles (and maybe other rubbish that decomposed) out.

Thu, 2013-11-07 12:55

I was Digging a hole for a fruit tree years ago when I hit something with the shovel, I  Carefully dug around it to find a biscuit tin. Opened it up and found a plastic lunch box, I'm thinking you beauty, it's full of cash. opened the lunch box to find a plastic bag filled with some sort of powder, now I'm thinking what the hell have I stumbled upon. I cut open the bag and tipped it down the hole and planted the tree. Found out later on it was the old guys mrs ashes and he'd buried them under a rose garden he'd made in her honour. Never got a single piece of fruit from it

Thu, 2013-11-07 13:04

Hi Russ,

Yeah mate I did get a new bung! :)

Lotsa fun been had and lotsa quality fish caught in the boat, is now kitted out with some ripper electronics, with a new motor due to arrive this Monday! :)

Motor's my bad for leaving it sit too long between uses, just been too busy with work, at home and office.

Cheers,

Joe

All good

Tue, 2013-11-12 17:41

Yeah motor was entirely my bad, was running great, probably should have "winterized" it whilst not in use for so long.

Got a 355 ci Chev with 4 bolt mains and full forged internals arriving shortly, will put up pics once it's installed. Also picked up a wicked pair of polished stainless risers from a Brisbane company which actually have stainless headers inside, meant to increase performance 20% over standard, and economy gains. Still deciding on through hull exhaust option.....I believe there's a gadget called a "Captains call" where you can switch between through hull and through leg.............. ;)

Was dyno'd with 550Nm from 2000rpm, and maxxed at 384hp at 4800rpm, so not bad for being cammed and tuned for economy! Will just have to go easy on the throttle of it'll twist off the drive shaft.

Really looking forward to getting back out there.

Cheers,

Joe

- Metre long Monitor Lizard

Sat, 2013-11-09 08:37

- Metre long Monitor Lizard showed up under our lemon tree in suburban adelaide when I was a little tacker ended up losing it's head ala shovel style..

Have a collection of very old bottles - not from our backyard but dad used to put sewage schemes through various country towns changing over from septic and found a number when digging trenches..  Have some great ones including a few old pickaxe bottles, old ink bottle (full) and alot of old medicine bottles etc.

Was thinking the same thing?? Must be the manly thing to do. I just hate hearing story's of native reptiles being killed because they are living in somebody's yard.

Was at least 40 years ago for info - from memory I would have been around 4-5 years old (now 45). Including the tail it would have been well over a metre so pretty big to tangle with.

Tue, 2013-11-12 08:05

A dead body - front yard not the back. When I was about 10... seems during the night some old bloke just decided to sit on our low brick fence and that's where he passed away. Interesting find on the way out the door for school.

found the anz bank

Tue, 2013-11-12 18:06

found the ANZ bank atm in Karratha was dispensing 50 dollar notes instead of twentys years ago when I went back 30 minutes later to use it again there was a queue 50 meters long of people waiting to use it (word passes fast in small towns back in the day) a mate who had just made a withdrawal said to me as he passed by me "apparently money does grow on trees" unfortunately we all had to pay it back to the bank under threat of legal action
