Stucture Scan Install
Submitted by BarraSlayer on Mon, 2016-04-18 20:01
Having some problems with my structure scan LSS2 I purchased on Friday and installed on Sat and tried out on Sun. Main issue nothing seems to come up on sidescan, when I go to down scan it just looks like a different pallet sonar screen. I have HDS 12Gen2 and plugged it straight into the back. Don't seem to get anything on side scan... all I get is downscan and I'm not sure if it is what it is supposed to look like. I tried it in depths for 10m to 40m whist drifting. Thought they were a simple plug and play option.
Pictures below.
Is it mounted too far down and trim tabs/motor in way?
Anybody here knowledgeable on the topic that can give me a hand here to work out what's going on?
Cheers

Last picture
Bottom corner is all I get when I select downscan. Its just a blank screen when I select sidescan, sidescan left-right.. basically all of the side scan options.

Your transducer is to high
Your transducer is to high it needs to be the lowest part of the bottom of the boat because the side scan will hit anything in its path. I have the same problem with mine but can not go lower so side scan will always be useless for me

Oh
Thanks Nathan. I asked the guys at the shop where to install it and they said the opposite side. Where is the beat place do you think? If I drop it down just lower than the trim tab will it pick up left side? Anyone fashion a drop bracket for this problem?

I gree with Nathan re. the
I gree with Nathan re. the transducer position.
A better position would be where the right side bung hole is, but you may still have interferance from the black tab in the centre of the transom, in which case you can move the transducer aft on it's mounting bracket to get clearance. Better still maybe use a "U" shaped standoff bracket over the bung hole- that way you can use the bung and have enough rearward clearance to "see" past the centre tab (hope that makes sense?).
For what it's worth, the installation manual of my LSS2 instructs you to have the LSS and 83/200 transducers no more than 30cm apart, though I suspect that has more to do with being able to overlay downscan on the regular sonar image.

$100 says you have selected
$100 says you have selected 'HDI transducer(455/800/200/50khz)' in the sonar installation settings.
Press pages button.. settings... sonar.. installation settings... then select a generic 200/50khz transducer.
HDI transducers utilise the 455/800khz structure scan frequencies, and disable the LSS-2.
So what you are seeing when you select the down image is actually coming from your HDI tranny... not your LSS-2.
