Success with Poppers, SP's and Lures

Almost every person on here prefers or uses lures and jigs....

What governs your success using them? Do you use bait first then lures? Or berley up bigtime (landbased) then throw lures into the fray?

I just find that Ive been fishing quite a few times in the past week using poppers and twisties... and I cant seem to get a bite...... Am I missing something? Ive tried a lot of different sizes too......

Maybe (and im really starting to think it) I just really suck. Man! I really want to get good at lures and SP's and stop using bait so much! lol I stink!

Haha

Depends what your chasing rickets and what frame of mood their in.

When fish are actively feeding its hard to go past a popper or stickbait just for the anticipation factor.;)

some people that fish before work like to use HB's and SP's so their hands dont get fishy.

sometimes i feel like a relaxing fish, so i leave the bait at home and cast and retrieve lures and SP's

cheers

In my experience sometimes

In my experience sometimes jigs, poppers, hardbodies have outfished baits... othertimes, not. I generaly fish what works best for the prevailing conditions and sometimes it happens to be baits, sometimes lures.

Keep persisting, you'll get it. But if you're not having much luck, switch to bait and then try lures again another time... no point coming home fishless when theres fish to be caught on bait.

I've never tried SP's before but I bought some small squidgy fish and wrigglers today which I'm probably going to try down the creek on the weekend on mangrove jacks and bream.. I'll let everyone know how I go.

Yeah, I keep saying to my mate...

"fishing is only 50% casting, retrieving and successfully landing after a hookup... the other half is picking the right place, at the right time and knowing how to fish with the circumstancial conditions given to you on the day" (however these percentages may actually not be that accurate but as an illustration, it works well)

I think I have got the gear, the technique and the knowhow, just lacking in the experience of knowing where and when for the particular species I go for at any time....

With bait im ok, but yeah, seeing as though im new to lures and SP's i think I just havnt been lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time.... Its ok, theres plenty of good fishing to come as time goes on...

But we'll get there...

Cant wait to land a beauty on the HB's :D
