suday fishing out wide
Headed out at 3:30 this morning ,plan was to hijack some bass groper ,but as we know plans don't allways go to plan .Conditions were good but once out in the 100m mark I could see she would have been pritty bad out wider,so we fished the 80_90m line ,with some good fish on the sounder we drop and were all on stright away Snapper were everywere, some around the 5-6kg ,we kept the first couple to get some fish in the box ,and then released the rest would have had 15 snapper for the day all released fish swam back well.Jody got a nice dhuie around 650mm and made the call to release it , as it was still early in the day.We had a great mixed bag with some good sized queen snapper ,dhuies, black bums, sambos, and red snapper.Jody had a good hook up half way though the day and after 15minutes was starting to slow a little we were all calling it as a shark or ray as the thing was very heavy .after some mor huff and puff up pop this hugh sambo ,or could have been amberjack ,it was the biggest i have seen or caught,we did not weigh it but must have been near 40kg.,in all a top day on the water ,and some nice pics .look out bass as we will be coming soon .

Dorsal fin count way to hi
Dorsal fin count way to hi for sambo, its +30 on that fish and sambos are low 20s IIRC. Other tips are the fattest point is nowhere near the head, the line runs thru the eye, the eye starts before the jaw hinge and it looks scaly, not slimy.
Great fish and a great trip!

Well done guys
That's a fantastic effort Jodie. What a great fish.
It looks like you all did well.
We were wondering if you were going to get out deep when we saw the wind starting to pick up. It was a good decision to stay in closer with that sort of success Paul.

Well done. Shape and bulk wise (not colour) that fish looks very similar to a NZ ytk.

"Home Improvement" when you are peering over the top of that great fish. That is one great fish. What gear were you using?

Great day
Now that's what you call an amberjack! Wow! Well done guys some top fish there.
Perhaps we should have pushed wider, as the 40's were serving up very few fish on Sunday.
We made do with a couple of Dhuies. a couple of Queenies and huge Blackbum. Oh and a minature baldy, a scorpion cod and an SB. THAT WAS IT!!!! Hardly a scale raised. But despite only 3 fish kept for the boat, I had technically bagged out!!!!
Tried for some KG's but they didnt want to play either.
I think maybe the shallower water gets effected more by the moon phases than the deeper water, what do you think Paul????
Cheers

Im not to sure but my inside
Im not to sure but my inside stuff hasn't been holding to much ,I think the water is to clear,I reckon the fish like it when the water is a little merky. The spot I fish out there is holding a lot of fish with schools 8m high and wide,i did notice one spot 8mile out had a lot of snapper on it but they were small ,did get one good one around 6kg, this spot had more snapper than usual and that may have somthing to do with the moon.
