Sunday 25th March

Headed out sunday, got to ocean reef ramp by about 7.30, so we set off and there was a strong easterly blowing so the morning was pretty crappy. We decided to shelter near Burns Rocks and catch some whiting, we were there for about 3 hours and caught about 50 whiting, at this time the easterly had dropped off and we decided to head out further to the 40 meter mark in search for dhuies. By the time we were fishing the first spot it was now 11.30 and flat calm.

The first few drift were unsuccessful, then on the 4th we got a black arse, a few more drifts and we picked up the first dhuie weighed about 7-8 KG. a few more drifts again and this time something bigger was hooked, another dhuie which weighed just under 15kg.

Cheers
Dean

Well done Dean.

Hopefully you can give the frames to Fisheries for their research program and add to out tally from the site.

Looks like they could be husband and wife if they were from the same lump. Usually you get the male first though when that happens.

Great pics and a huge Blackarse as well. That would have to be a couple of kilo's on its own.

PS: Get yourself a scaling bag set up for the boat if you haven't already got one. They take the hassle out of catching and cleaning whiting. 5 minutes dragged behind the boat at 10knots and they are completely scaled and just need filleting with much less mess.

Cheers

Thanks for comments

Frames will be going to fisheries, on the mark we were fishing we have had about 18 dhuies off it in the past and it's weird because the ground is flat on the sounder, but has weed on the bottom as I have pulled a few clumps up before.
