Sunday fish - Exmouth

Went for a fish with Steve (Bouttime) and his roomie Paul yesterday afternoon and had a ball out there once the wind died off a bit. Once hitting the water tower we ran into what can only be described as a tuna frenzy. Everywhere you looked out of the front of the boat in a 180 degree direction had tuna flying and baitfish getting smashed. It was truly an awesome sight!! We managed to land a couple of 6-7kg longtails on the light stuff before moving onto the spangly spot. After picking up 5 good spangles and the current starting to rush we decided to head back in. About 500m closer to the marina we encountered the tuna frenzy again, this time even more full on! At one stage they were almost hitting the side of the boat as they pursued the baitfish. There must have been literally thousands in the school.  After a couple of quick flicks we landed a couple more longtails and one barrel size mack tuna and called it a day with them still flying all over the place.

I've seen some pretty awesome tuna schools up here, but this was just insane. Unfortunately I left my video camera at home, which is a damn shame because it would have been some sick viewing.  Maybe next-time... Just thought I should post this up for a few of the crew that are headed up soon, just a bit of amp for you. :)

Cheers,

Adam

I told the boys to pass on a message on the first Friday night, was a good one.  They said something about you being incapacitated...  The boss being in town stuffed up my plans a bit, but was good to catch up for a chat atleast.  Next time the beers will flow.

Good mate

Mon, 2008-03-17 19:41

The motor's sweet mate, was my first ride out in it yest.  Got blown out today so it was a no go.  Going to do some serious miles tomorrow for some goldband and reds and maybe a billfish once we've got enough.

Just give me plenty of heads up when you've got the dates.

Tuesday report

Tue, 2008-03-18 21:43

Sensational day on the water out there today, not a hell of a lot of fish.  Raised one black marlin of about 50kg and then a saily of about 30kg.  Did some bottom bouncing and got sharked on some serious fish, we managed to pull 3 rankin cod, 4 spanglies, 1 robinson sea bream, coupla big golden trevally and a heap of other oddities.  We did some diving off the rons as well which was just suberb to finish off the day.  No photos of the days catch unfortunately. :(

Have a good photo of my PE8

Wed, 2008-03-19 10:06

Have a good photo of my PE8 monstermesh in 3 pieces after hooking a good fish and a shark deciding he wanted it more than me. Had to fight the bugger about 50mtrs with 1/2 a rod. Not fun. Anyway still a good day out with the weather as good as it was, just got to find some way of getting rid of those painfull sharks.

By the way the new suzuki is running a dream. Just got up 20hrs so in for its first service. Has a cruise speed of around 23knts at 4000rpm and flat stick the other day in the flat water with 3 on board and a full tank of fuel managed 36knts at 5900rpm trimed out. Not to bad at all. Should get a flat water fast cruise of around 30knts which i will be happy with.
