Sunday would have been a cracker

Wow. Cant believe I couldn't get out on Sunday. F-all wind and <1m swell. Would have been close to the best day I have seen for a fish after coming down from Karratha.
I couldn't get out (commitments) but did anyone get out on what must have been glass out there.
Jealous as.

Swell was 2m offshore and up

Mon, 2016-04-04 10:31

Swell was 2m offshore and up to 3 m behind Rotto but dropped all day, although we did surf a few big ones on one the way back from a deep drop. There was no chop and it was glassy a few times during the day, which made for wonderful conditions.

Literally Glass in the sound

Mon, 2016-04-04 10:41

I was given 0nly 2-3 hours pass yesterday by the boss, so took my little daughter squidding.

There was no drift at all so we had to work hard for our 11 squid.

Still can't complain.

hard work

Mon, 2016-04-04 10:44

was nice conditions, but the fishing was hard work.

we got 2 x 52cm king George, a decent baldie, and a 60cm dhuie, but the bites were very few and far between, and it was hard work to get what we did.

I did notice that the water temp had dropped nearly 4'c since last weekend!! we got tuna in 26.5'c off 2 rocks last saturday, and the same spot was 22.5'c yesterday. it had also gone quite green as well, which is maybe why it had shut down.

Agree, temps well down....was 22 on the 3 mile, 21.2 half way across the bank, 22.5 in the trench but got hotter near the FADS and peaked at 23.4 at the Furuno FAD.

Did not see any birds working at all.....first time for ages, but the deep drop was good, always cold down there.

Yes saw that

Mon, 2016-04-04 11:27

went for a whiting bash Wednesday as I was time limited, but the Mrs always comes along as she is a gun fisherperson. Wasn't a bad day but not glass. 2 weeks ago water temp 27 odd DegC, Wednesday as low as 21.4.
Our normal double header whiting spot was hard work. Gave ourselves 2 hrs to get a feed, took us 4 with a lot of position changes.
I think the Leeuwin current has stopped/reversed (if this happens) to account for the rapid temp drops (and slower than normal fishing)

Had to work from 7-2 and then play footy at 5pm so couldn't find a window to get out. Was hating life until I won a $500 cash prize in a raffle at work after earning $650 and then found the footy a few times through the guts

North side of Rotto was a freeway. Quite a few boats on anchor, with small dive flags, being buzzed by boats doing 20-30knt.

Temps were around 4 degrees on the tap at The Arms.
