Mewstones and surrounding areas

Hi all,

Planning to take wife and kids out tomorrow to fish around Mewstones and surrounding area, hopefully get some salmon action. Will be trolling/casting.

I haven't fished this area before  ( tend to fish more offshore areas normally) and would be grateful for any safety tips in regards to reefs and breaking waves. Will it be ok with Tomorrow's swell prediction of around 1.5-2.5m. Are you  best staying on inside of these reefs rather than oceanside ?

Thanks for advice

 Mewstone Rock is the large

Sat, 2016-04-02 18:45

Mewstone Rock is the large rock, rowboat reef is 300m inside. Last weekend the salmon were on the north western tip of rowboat reef. Troll shallow, Mulie looking divers around the tip of the reef. Watch the swell and don't get too close.

Generally there will be a few boats wher the fish are.

Alternatively, troll the same lures around the reefs around the back of mewstone. There was a big school last weekend though likely moved, it is worth a crack. I only found it after trolling lures around and afte one hit, went back and what I thought was weed was a big school.

You are safe heading to The reefs from Fremantle though there is a little bombie to the south and another to the north thogh you should see them disturbing the water.

 Sometimes, if the salmon are

Sat, 2016-04-02 19:12

Sometimes, if the salmon are a bit off the bite I tend to slowly troll a ganged mulie, but generally cast a 3oz Richter white plug, retrieving it flat out. Always fun to watch up to 6 salmon fight over one lure. Today there was a wide spread school that started around the north end of Garden Island and moved northeast over the channel. Look for the birds, as they are around everywhere chasing bait fish.

Rowboat Reef

Mon, 2016-04-04 10:45

Just be careful when chasing those salmon around Rowboat reef as there are some reefs that come up to around a metre or less to the NE and also to the SW of the Rowboat. There has been more than one boat do a prop while trolling thru the area
