It was interesting that it was just left. I may be wrong though being that 'Fire Baby' put the anchor in, he has claimed it. Strange to just leave it though and not take the shit falling off it up the beach a bit.
I guess, if it is insurance, just call the insurance company and say 'here it is' and its up to them.
Swamped from behind means the transom must have been facing into the wind--anchored fore and aft? Anyhow, nasty thing to happen. That will be an expensive recovery, hope he was insured. Was it on one of the Muirons, or Serrurier?
Not sure of the exact circumstance and haven't seen the clip. Just saw guys talking about it on other pages. The owner saying the dual anchor setup he used didn't work as well as he hoped. Boat has reportedly been recovered.
Single for me. Big fark off plough for a 10m boat, 12mm chain, and 4000kg rope, moused shackles. Never had a problem in big, unexpected blows at Serrurier.
a lot of guys will do bow-stern anchors with the stern facing the beach, and the bow facing the ocean, for convenience of getting in and out of the boat in the mornings, unloading gear, etc, but when conditions change, this can be a sure fire way to fill up the boat when a bit of swell rolls in, and rolls back down the beach, swamping the stern.
unless its dead protected (in a bay, etc), and I know conditions are very mild with no chance of changing, I just use 2 anchors + 15m of 8mm short link chain on each anchor, and free swing the boat out a bit off the beach. I often leave one anchor out on a float as a mooring, and just clip it to the bollard on the bow, after i've set the first anchor.
sometimes you have to swim out a bit to retrieve it, but I know itll be safe in every condition, and will still be there in the morning.
That beach looked lovely with a light offshore. But it's going to be totally different when it swings onshore. That is open sea there, treat it as such. Like others said above, big anchor, plenty of chain, if you plan to go ashore for the night. If you want to shorten, or maybe even avoid, the swim in the morning, you can think about a rope off the stern-BUT--and this is a big But, is that it has to be longenough to not interferewith the boat swinging. If you put the boat a safe distance off the beach, you are going to need a very long rope indeed. Hard to manage well. My preference is for sleeping onboard--much less crap to carry, and you are awake and aware as soon as the wind swings and strengthens unexpectedly. But I'm sharing the Reefrunners' generous infilled double bed with my wife, not you smelly bastards .
I've been using a #2 Sarca ( super sarca, not excel) on the Reefrunner since I bought it. It has been absolutely perfect. In theory, it should be a bit small for a boat closing on 2 tonne fuelled up with 2 on board. We've been through some really windy Shark Bay nights, real annexe flatteners, and it hasn't moved an inch. But I think I'll go to a #3 before I camp out at those islands north of Exmouth.
I Love that in one of his last few vids he says my reel was busted so had to get a new one, shimano was sleeping then holds up a new daiwa. Cheeky bugger but his done well for himself and im jelly as hell every video i watch so he can keep destroying his gear and I'll sit on my couch in envy

The owner was camping on the beach and overnight the wind and swell came up and swamped it from behind.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Anchor rope must have ended up around the motor?

Yep. That's what I do too.
Yep. That's what I do too. Massive plough with plenty of chain and I'll drop it as a temporary Mooring if I'm doing a few days.

I will take the seats.
I will take the seats. Better than the ones I have.
Certainly would be a bit pissed if that happened to my boat.

Boats gotta be able to react to the wind.

They may snap lots of rods, but they dont say they are gun fishos and openly admit theyre not good at it but are getting better.
I reckon Brodie and crew have done an awesome job and half their luck. Just reminds me of my time in Exxy, love watching the vids
