suzuki df60a backing plate

Need to put a nylon backing plate behind my suzuki df60a (picked up a quintrex 490 bowrider and it doesn't have one) I noticed it doesn't have much trim to point the nose down. Has anyone used a backing plate say 20mm at the top tapering down to 10mm to help trim the motor inward?

Some pictures of the new addition

Trim

I dont think a backing plate will give you any more trim in to get the nose down, most people use a wedge to get more trim in. I would just get 20m of anchor chain in the anchor locker to add a bit of weight to the front. Haven't seen a white Suzuki in Australia before, it looks great    cheers ACE

 I installed wedges last year

Thu, 2016-06-09 07:07

I installed wedges last year when I was raising  my outboards up a hole. She used to like a lot of tab and ride a little bow high, especially when planing at slower speeds. Made a big difference. Recommend it as there is no negative effect to adding them.

Nice rig too mate and I'm a fan of the White suzukis too. That should be super economical!

Hey mate, the wedges are available already made for this application from my supplier, in terms of a nylon plate I think it is good practice to fit them to alloy boats. Whenever I fit an engine to an alloy boat it gets a nylon plate, in regard to the wedges send me an email and I can point you in the right direction of you want?

Cheers guys, I'll get some wedges this week and install them... I had never seen a white suzuki before either, limited edition apparently... as for fuel, should have about a 200km range with the 80l tank  just need to re prop as doing 6100 @ wot with two people and fishing gear and does about 46kmh at wot so wouldn't mind getting it to around 5800rpm with a bit more speed.

 A 60hp is a very small motor

A 60hp is a very small motor for that hull.  Try re propping it first. If you bought it from a dealer they should do it for free or let you test different props.  You will find it will always be a bit sluggish especially when loaded.

Not so much sluggish, if anything it's the opposite. Gets up and out of the water with two big guys and fishing gear with ease. Wanted to go different prop as it has the power to go a bigger size to then drop the rpm to where I want it. I purchased it second hand off gumtree

I think your numbers a good.

I think your numbers a good. You want to be at the top of the rev range loaded. Changing props, For the cost l dont think your gains will be worth it. I would be taking the foil off. You will gain alittle top end without it l recon.
