SW Fishwrecked Comp RESULTS
The first SW Fishwrecked comp has come and gone.
It was a great day and very successful as everyone that attended caught fish. Following is a report and some pictures of the day. We are in the process of writing an article for Reeltime so I have not posted some great photos so stay tuned for the article.
The weather was very good especially for those that fished the Cape.
It was a hectic friday trying to organise one and all and unfortunately Seaquest had to withdraw his boat from the comp due to a seal breaking at the prop due to unwanted braid he had picked up the day before chasing salmon and I hope you can get your motor fixed Brendan for Exmouth. A few crew dropped out due to health of other reasons so in all 12 members fished the comp.
MineMineMine (Helen) and Goodz (Ben) travelled down from Perth to rub shoulders with us locals and seeing Ben brought his family down the pressure was on to catch some fish. Thanks to Barneyboy (Mark) for subbing Ben into his boat after Brendan had to pull out.
Three boats hit the Cape while Bluetonic (BJ) and Garbo headed out from Bunbury.......
Those of us fishing the Cape found the salmon....
Me hooked up and
Jared not far behind.
Jared has just moved down from Kununurra and is finding the fishing different from the Barra....
Not long after Mark, Ben and Helen joined the fun
Gives you an idea of the size and this is Ben's fish
The school was about 10 tonne and just hung around all day. Metals, Poppers and Soft Plastics all did the damage. Was great watching Ben casting poppers and the ensuing surface strikes from the salmon.
After catching heaps of Salmon it was time to venture further afield. Feral (Clint) Nealez (yes I spelt it correct this time) and the Docta went west out to the lumps while Mark and I went around the Cape.
There was plenty of fish caught and the conditions were most favourable for the Cape.
Mark was the first to boat the elusive weed fish.....
Well Done Mark on such a unique capture... but would it be good enough to win the comp......
Mark with a Queenie
Kept in constant contact with Bj and Garbo fishing Bunbury and good to see Garbo finally jigging and well rewarded...ha ha
And yes BJ did catch one fish
While actually not that big BJ ......what he caught this KG on will be revealed in the Reeltime article..........
Apparently they were plagued by undersize pinkies and kamakazi jig loving rays..ha ha
While I headed in early to help organise the the after comp party the crews all fished on......
Feral's boat picked up a 10kg Dhuie a couple of miles off the cape but once again the salmon were keen to play.
That's Feral in the FW shirt and Mark and crew in the forground centre console.
After a long drive down and a longer day in the boat it was great to see Helen catch her first salmon.
With some great coaching from Ben she is rewarded with a solid salmon on SP
Fantastic effort Helen and hopefully worth the trip south. I understand the crew from Tackleshack supplied the gear so another great effort guys.
Due to numbers at the after party it was decided to just split the prizes into three $50 fishing vouchers.
Considering the travel and effort she displayed throughout the day and being her first salmon we awarded Helen a prize.
It was a great capture seeing she is new to fishing.
The other two vouchers were pulled from the hat, NOT my Puma pants...ha ha and accordingly Mark and NEALEZ (see I spelt it correct again) won these.
Mark kindly donated a prize consisting of SP jigheads and a bunch of Snapback packets. Garbo won these.
The party continued as a long day on the water needs a cold beer or three. Those that missed the comp due to work turned up the the BBQ.
NEALEZ, Clint and Dan1
A few more of the ragtag crew
So all up it was a very successful day. Thanks to all that attended and was great to meet some more crew. The comps are designed to allow members to meet up and fish, so don't be shy and join the festivities. It was great to finally meet crew who you talk to over the forum and I think everyone enjoyed themselves.
A big Thankyou to BJ for his help and place to party.........still laughing about "little billie" and his puma pants adventures...he he. Thanks to the skippers that graciously donated deckie spots and to all those crew that journeyed down to the SW, Feral and crew for donating the Dhuie and Nani for the BBQ and finally to Shantele (excuse my spelling if I have it wrong) for the food and munchies. Hopefully after I leave the comps continue.
When you all hit Exmouth for the comp first up say thanks to Adam and the fellow organisers, it's no easy task and a lot of effort from multiple crew goes into organising such a comp.
Likewise we have a donation for Fishwrecked so I'll send it up Adam
Fish species included, Sambos, Salmon, Skippy, Pigfish, Dhuies, KGW, Queenies, Leatherjackets, Pink and Red Snapper, Shallowtail and the usual suspects........
The SW aint so barren!

Rocky point
It looks to be Rocky point on the south end of Bunker bay.
The closest ramp is in Eagle bay about 3 miles away but its a very rough ramp and 4wd only, the next one is the old Dunsborough ramp and the Quindalup ramp further back in the bay.At a guess Quindalup is about 8nm from Rocky and Dunsy 6-7nm.

Good day out on the water
Good day out on the water for all, well done to the organisers and the winners. I'm back home for a short break next Monday (going to Melbourne to watch Freo V Saints on the weekend) so hopefully there are still a few fish around.
Cheers

Can't wait to see the rest of the pics.
