Swan River (Belmont) Multanova Boat Speeding Cam
Bloke I know took his ex partner's new (second hand) boat (registered in her name) and their son out in the river, minus her of course.
The ex wife then got a notice in the mail from Dept of Transport , asking her to identify the driver of the boat within 21 days or she is deemed to be the speeding driver and gets the fine.
Notice says " Belmont Camera" on it. No name for the fining officer other than "W29" on the form.
The guy admits to speeding upstream of the ski area, as he claims he can't work out where the ski area finishes :( Neither he or his son have a skippers ticket.
Anyone else heard of this happening before ? I remember seeing a newspaper about this years ago, but thought it had never actually happened.
I told him he will get two fines once they work out he has no skippers ticket.

I’ve seen them standing at the Maylands boat ramp, with today’s technology instead of tying to wave them down they take you picture .
the sign saying 8kt upstream of the Belmont area doesn’t seem to be there.

I think this is a good thing.
I think this is a good thing. Not many people know what 8 knots is let alone 5 knots in the upper reaches. I take the dog for a walk after work and see people doing 15 - 20+ knots plus through there all the time. My tinnies prop got smashed on the Bayswater ramp before I'd had a chance to lift the motor because some speeding knobs wash.

yeah me too - I have seen
yeah me too - I have seen boats flog past Pier 21 - 8 knots is for safety and wash - the wash going through the boats in pens some days is huge and causes premature wear on mooring lines and chains and has damaged boats in the past
- bring it on

If they had a fixed camera
If they had a fixed camera around Bayswater and South Guildford they'd make a mint especially on public holidays. I've had people being towed past me on ski biscuits at speed twice around Bassendean. That whole area is littered with hidden sharp snags just underwater there and they would get impaled if they came off onto one.
This was me on Easter Monday testing my Gopro for the first time and nearly going in the drink for the first time too due to boat wash. I looked down and all I saw was water and will never how I didn't go in as I was gone haha. I usually crouch/kneel down to lower my centre of gravity when caught like that but was preoccupied with my snagged $23 lure.

Not Cool!
Yeah that is not cool
I have had a Kayak for about 12 months and use it down in the bay in busso quite shallow for squid and whiting. The holidays are hectic with ski boats tearing it up in the 8knot zone which ends about 200m out I think. I refuse to take it out when those wankers are around now. Even on flat days it just isnt worth getting tipped by inconsiderate people.
Is there anyone to call and complain? Water police, ranger etc????

it happened to me years ago
it happened to me years ago in the murray river heading to the Ravo. i had just bought my first boat ever and really knew stuff all about anything (before licences were required). i was carving up the river like i was in jet boat the day after from picking it up. it was also when i had stuff all money and i couldnt afford to transfer it over to my name immediately. the frenchman who i had brought it off rang me around four weeks later going off his head saying that he had received a fine for speeding in the murray river. i had no idea that they did that back then.

Was at Glenn Mervyn dam over Easter
Spoke with a ski boat owner about the restricted area for swimmers and kayakers, he said last Christmas a fellow got fined 7 times by DOT for entering this area, at $700 per infringement. One very expensive day out.
Old fishermen never die they just smell that way.

theres no speed cameras
theres no speed cameras there but cctv cameras hanging of the big yellow pole next to the boat ramp, they can tell by the wake if your speeding or not, theres a 5knot sign at the end of the ski area on both sides of the river which is pretty hard to miss!, the more people it catches the better i reckon.
