with baiting for bream mate i find if you use bait past say the causeway you dont have to much problems with blowies. or you can use mussels like in this video www.youtube.com/watch

lures are fun for bream but can be pretty tricky.

IF you HAVE to be a bream

IF you HAVE to be a bream baito, just head down to the banks at Ascot and chuck out a whole prawn or a mulie cube on a size 2/0 circle hook with as small a running ball sinker as you can get away with in the current and leave that in a rod holder and flick a lure around the snags with a second rod while the bait rod soaks in the water. If you see the bait rod moving get onto it quickly before you hook up because an bream that takes a size 2/0 circle is going to wrap you around a snag pretty quickly. Let the bream run for a bit and then slowly tighten the line without striking with a couple of winds of the handle to sink the circle hook in.

Be observant when you're fishing the river and watch what the guys catching fish are doing. I always have a bit of a chuckle when the shore based bream fishers are casting into the middle of the river and catching nothing and I am in my dinghy casting towards them on the shore and pulling bream out from under their feet.

JF has got it spot on.The big fellas are all in tight on the bank.I have seen them in the shallows so try to get out on a branch and work parallel to the bank its great fun.

 Grab some 4lb flurocarbon

Tue, 2017-11-28 08:42

Grab some 4lb flurocarbon leader (use 2m of) a pack of bloodworm zman grubs 1/16 tt jig heads size 1 ( the smallest hooks) feed the grub on the hook straight with the tail facing up. Go to maylands tennis courts and fish that bank. Cast the grub out and slowly roll it back. Once you get confident start experimenting with hops twitches and pauses, but the slow roll will start you off always some flatties and the odd soapie around too. Once you've nailed a few that way you'll soon have thousands of dollars worth of placcies lures and rods and reels haha. Good luck mate. Nothing wrong with bait but the hit of a 40cm bream on a artificial is something you need to experience.
