You need

You need light 4- 6lb line, a float and a small (size 6-8) hook baited with either bread, a kernel of sweet corn or "seaweed". I've tried myself a few times without luck, just for fun only with the light tackle,  because Ive heard the river mullet tatse "muddy" owing to the fact they eat the slime etc on the bottom of the river. They are very finnicky and can be difficult to catch making them an interesting challenge; the "horrizontal jigging" technique is not allowed.

You can find out a lot more by using the fishwrecked search function on the left, or by Googling , I'm no expert.

...many topwater whiting sessions in the Peel inlet this summer I hooked two on little stickbaits. This is by no means the best way to catch them but it's a distinct possibility and, of course, you're in with a chance for whiting, herring, or maybe even a tailor!

I use a small quill float

Tue, 2014-04-22 12:24

I use a small quill float with about 1m of 3lb fluro to a size 16 hook

then I get 3 small pieces of crust and thread onto line

an space them apart about 10cm back from the hook

then squeeze a tiny bit of bread onto hook

then for burly I get the bread and rub it between my hands

so it just crumbles into water have caught quiet a few off jetties

in rocko and mandurah when nothing else is around

 Don't know how to catch

Don't know how to catch mullet but do know that when I use it for bait, it works a treat for bream and stays on the line for ever and it also is good for crab apparently.

I catch plenty of Mullet in the summer months on breadpaste and float tactics.

I used to catch a lot of Pilch by the brewery when I was a kid. River prawns late in the arvo. Running sinker with a small long shanked hook.

I saw a guy and his little girl catch a few mullet and a heap of hardyheads at the Shelly foreshore jetty about a week ago, using the same rig mentioned above with little cubes of chicken coated in tuna oil and premix burley.

Spun me out had never seen it before

we catch plenty in the mandurah estury using a gill net... mines 30m long and my brothers is 60m long... not that this helps you as there are alot of rules and regulations in place while using these nets, so you cant use them in river systems and you are restricted to netting at night and only on any given Wednesday during the netting season (thats for where we nett anyway) simply start your nett in knee deap water and run the nett out from there.... anchor each end with a sand anchor, walk back to your car have a beer... grab your bucket and colect your fish and repeat... I put my net out a few weeks ago and had 8 mullet  b4 it was even fulley set.... I walked back in had a beer... I walked back out about 15 minutes later and got 3/4 down the lenght of my net and noticed a sizable clean cut hole that was about 1.5m wide and the full drop of my net!!! It was a calm night and we didnt hear a splash or any commotion!!! The net was still in the original position hadent moved at all... two guesses to what swam through!!! I walked back with another 6 mullet though so sweet as
