Swimming with a Humpback Whale and sharks everywhere
A stupid nerve/hand injury is keeping me from working and leaving me bored at home so I've been editing up a fair bit of fishing footage.
A few years ago while camping at Steep Point we awoke to a Humpback lazily sunning itself a few hundred metres off the beach. We could not resist a look and a hello in the water. I only recently found my original footage of this (filmed with an old gopro and leaky UW housing) and thought it deserved a quick edit and defintely some slo-mo to give you idea of how close we got and how big these beautiful animals are.
Something I'll never forget is that big giant eye looking straight at me, experience of a lifetime.

No need to use a dive cage to get up close and personal with sharks, 1 appeared to want a closer look at you than was healthy I think.
I saw a piece of video the other day where a diver poked at a shark with his spear gun as it was getting a bit close for comfort, as quick as a flash the shark that he poked came straight up and bit him on the stomach.

Yeee haa
Hi all...
Speaking of sharks. I'm in Fiji at the moment. Did the Beqa shark dive yesterday . Just go to YouTube n type in Fiji shark dive. Holy fucking shitballs batman. Two 18 metre dives. First dive was pretty cool lots of bull sharks, gt's and spangled Emporer the size of houses. Fish and sharks galore everywhere.... You get up super close to the feeding action ( see blood guts n offal in the water... They say they use 700 kg of fish frames each week ) . Second dive I nearly turned my wetsuit into a nappy . A Tiger shark about 3.5 m arrived. This dude had no fear of people what so ever. We were kneeling behind a rock wall about two feet high , the other sharks would swim in get a feed ,turn around and line up again for more food , not the Tiger. I was at the start of the line and the Tiger cruises in a straight line for me and I'm thinking he's going to turn ,he has to turn right? Nope... I was playing chicken with the wrong shark. Last second I ducked and flattened myself behind the wall on my stomach whilst almost shitting myself at the same time. At this moment in time I was thinking that maybe this was the stupidest thing I've done in my life. All I can say is that the guys who are running this have got the biggest balls I've ever seen. There were four local divers with aluminium shepherds crooks sitting behind and above us, giving the Sharks either a push ( yep.. Who in their right mind pushes a Tiger shark away with their hand?) or a whack with the poles. The guy who was feeding them was wearing a chain mail full arm glove and he was handing out tuna heads to these big bities like we would feed a dog a snagger. All in all it was an eye watering experience and I'm glad I've done it! . It was probably the coolest ( and stupidest ) thing I've ever done in my life, watching a shark take a tuna head the size of a footy and watching the blood pour out of its gills is a sight I'm not going to forget for a long, long time. They're a really beautiful thing to see in their own habitat .... I'm going again tomorrow.. This time I'm taking a go-pro with me... Footnote... I'm doing a charter in a few days , max 4 people $60 per person.... Gotta love this place !!!

Good life
You have got a good life,Coral Bay one minute and diving in Fiji the next. Sounds awesome. If I see you in coral bay next year you might have to tell my missus how good it is so she might want to do it if we get to fiji again. That is assuming you do not get eaten tomorrow. We have been to northern fiji diving 3 times. Are you doing any more diving there ?

I'm on the fence
Crano... Yep I do have a good life...:)
58 days at work this year sofar !!! . The joys of having a Lawyer for a wife
Will be diving in an hours time... Yay!. Have got another ten days here and I'm planning on eight more dives . It's pretty cheep cheep too. $90 Aussie for a two tank dive. As far as sharks go I'm of the view that if there is a problem bitey take it out .if there is an INBALANCE in the Eco system rectify it. Was talking to a spearo from Brissie yesterday and he was saying that their shark fishery was closed about ten years ago ( sounds familiar ?) and they are noticing big numbers of over sized problem sharks in the area . Looks as though we're not the only ones with this problem. Sharks are an awesome machine in my view and we must realise that when we get in or on the water we are in their territory. If I get bitten or killed then so be it , I would have been in the Wrong place at the wrong time..... However when numbers are on the rise and problems start to occur its obvious that numbers need to be thinned out. Sharks breed like bunnies and who takes care of apex predators? Humans do... It's just a matter of working things out.... Time to go get the shit scared outta me... If you can't beat em join em.

Thanks guys, these are the kind of things you go out on the water to see, just happened to be right place right time. Sharks were definitely curious and not afraid to come up close. After a while in the water we got comfortable and didn't have a problem....though after reviewing footage we took on a pole cam the day before we are pretty confident we filmed a 3m great white in exactly the same place (I posted the footage on the forum for people's opinions)
That sounds unreal Silver Fox, I'll add that to my ever growing marine bucket list. Hahaha 58 for the year? I'm on 42 and it won't be rising anytime soon.
