A Swirl of a Time at Durien Bay

as Team Conquest ( Alias Team Seaswirl ) had it's first training run in preperation for the 2011 Fishwrecked Comp in Jurien Bay.

Blessed by the weather Gods two fantastic days on Monday and Tuesday, left Perth at 4.30am in jurien by 7.30am and on the water by 8.30am.

Monday was the perfect glass off day however never taken a boat to Jurien before and not knowing the secret fishing spots the first hour was a hit and miss affair.

Finally the Skipper(Seaswirl) found some intersting ground we named it the "Baldie Patch" four Baldies came up in quick succession before we decided to move to deeper water.

Next spot produced a nice Dhuie to Abeldog(wearing the Dhuie hat) followed by snapper to Hooht ( the Snapper King ).

We tried to find the fads but realised that one of the numbers on Fishwrecked is wrong however the Skipper found the spot.  "Redfm" had some birds we trolled around Abeldog landing a nice strippy tuna.

More searching for new ground before the day came to an end.

Tuesday on the water by 5.30am and we headed South as the weather was going to swing to the SW at about 11.00am

More poking around before Abeldog landed a nice snapper

We moved as we had enough snapper and then Hookt came into his own with a nice Baldie, followed by a great Dhuie that weighed 13.5kg. Yes no more about the ones that got away.

The rest of the morning was spent looking for ground, baging out with six fish and we were in by 2.00pm and then the three hour drive home.

Over the two days the Keepers were

2 x Dhuies

4 x Snapper

4 x Baldie

3 x Sweet Lip

We all learn't alot of new things on this trip, The importance of SUNSCREEN and a HAT, I ended up wit heatstroke, it hit me when I got home.

Boat handling, setups, launching, retrieving, reading plotter maps, GPS locations, however overall we learn't how important it is to work as a team on a boat.

Pulling lines in when someone is on a good fish, helping with the Gaff etc etc.

Can't wait for the Fishwrecked Comp only three months away.  Yahooooooooooo

Abeldog

Looks like you guys had a good trip up there too! I think we saw your boat near the filleting bench, we were just in such a rush to get back.

Interesting what you say about the FAD coords? We found the South one fine from the coords we had, but the middle one is missing and we never went up to the top one.

Yep

the RedFm coordinates has the middle number wrong.

It put you in 50m of water, when we looked at the chart and went west to 200m it was there.

The Skip worked it all out.

Headed south for a while but it was very quiet so we headed back in.

Well done boys, You did well considering you had no knowledge of spots, some good fish there.

Marko doesn't look all that pleased with his fish... a 13.5 kg dhuie would put a smile on my face!!

That Rapper look,

The only time I see him smiling, is when he is buying jigs, rods, reels etc and when he beats Jade at UNO.

He did smile and laugh when he saw how Red "The Skip" got on the Monday
