i honestly thought this was a joke , until i read it .......

you just got to wonder where it is going to end up with this type of thing happening

One of Sydney’s biggest seafood stores convicted of animal cruelty charges for torturing a lobster

A POPULAR Sydney seafood store pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges after a staff member inhumanely butchered a lobster.
Nicholas Seafood at the Sydney Fish Markets in Glebe was sentenced to a $1500 fine at Sydney Downing Centre court today after the business was charged by the RSPCA with an act of animal cruelty.
The RSPCA fined the store on February 12, 2016 after a witness videoed a worker on January 25 the same year butchering a lobster without any attempt to stun it to mitigate suffering.

The lobster struggles to get away.

The staff member inhumanely butchering the lobster.
The video shows the lobster struggling vigorously as the fishmonger attempts to butcher it.
It remains alive after its tail is cut off, before being put through a band saw about 20 seconds later.
RSPCA Inspector Tyson Hohlein attended the premises and said the staff member was unaware of correct procedures.
“I attended the business and spoke to the manager that was on at the time,” he said.
“We were told that it was an isolated incident and the staff member who did it was not aware of correct procedures to euthanise.”

Mr Hohlein confirmed the director of Nicholas Seafood elected to have the matter dealt with in court.
“The director has since seen the video and said it was unacceptable — their staff have now been trained and are aware of the guidelines that DPI put in place.
The company pleaded guilty and were fined $1500 and a conviction has been recorded.
“It is not often we get jobs related to crustaceans, and I would say that most restaurants are obeying the law,” Mr Hohlein said.

RSPCA NSW supplied the business with the readily available Department of Primary Industry’s pamphlet ‘Guidelines for Avoiding Cruelty in Shellfish Preparation’ which outlines the industry standard for the humane treatment of crustaceans.

This matter is the first crustacean conviction RSPCA NSW has seen.
Crustaceans were added to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act in 1997 after it was medically proven they feel pain.

like it or not, the law has been in place in nsw since 1997. A quick search shows the aquaculture council in WA also has a reference in their guidelines.

Goes to show the lefties keep pushing

Sat, 2017-02-18 07:38

Western societies have been hijacked by the leftie loonies. John Howard covered it by commenting that "Australians get beaten up by our own decency"  .....  The left loonies have reached a critical mass, albeit small in number.  The swamp needs draining.

It was dumb of that chef to hack up a lobster in public veiw and has attracted negative attention.A lot of things have no reasoning and soon it may come about that fishing is looked at as a terrible thing to do.I believe in U.K. live baiting for pike is illegal and there are anti fishing groups making noise.Recfishwest does a great job of promoting our sport and I will proudly wear my recfishwest Tee shirt at the Snapper release today

just do it.

Sat, 2017-02-18 08:40

RSPCA has slowly been taken over by these extremist fuckwits funded by the taxpayer and anyone else stupid enough to donate to them. They won't get a cent of mine.

 Sadly that is absolutely

 Sadly that is absolutely true.
RSPCA was a cause Id be happy to contribute to until they launched that stupid campaign 2 years back, against rec hunters shooting foxes and rabbits.

At that point I started looking closer at what they were up to.

R.S.P.C.A. and politics.

Sun, 2017-02-19 09:57

When my busines was running , I would donate about five thousand dollars  to various organisations each year,  when I recieved a phone call from the rspca soliciting more money to support the greens electrol campaign, I looked closer at how the rspca spent its money, I dont believe any non profit organisation should support any political party or organisation. So there after the money I might have donated to the rspca went to the flying doctor, a much better use of the money. I wouldnt give the rspca the time of day, I have lost all respect for them.  regards Marrisy.

The saddest part is

Sat, 2017-02-18 09:15

that we seem to be surrounded by people who feel the need to video stuff like this and then put it up on social media seeking their 5 mins of fame.

what gets me is the language

Sat, 2017-02-18 10:06

what gets me is the language used , in this article

like this ''the lobster struggles to get away '' emotionally associating it to a kidnap victim of human feelings etc ..where did they think it would get away to ?? it was caught to be eaten ffsake

or the ''medically proven '' comment

imo all fishers should expect more of this type of emotional argument as these groups seek to sway public opinion against fishing , social media is ripe for this type of view to be presented , we need to defend it in all areas

Livestock is stunned prior to slaughter, we accept and expect that.  If this video showing a cow instead of a cray would we be shocked and up in arms.  I would.

If there's an industry standard in place it should be enforced.  My thoughts anyway, off down the back now to give a tree a quick cuddle

Just like in US, the left

Just like in US, the left are the ones that control the media, do all sort of protest so they make much more noise, the only chance for the silent majority to strike back is on the election day

 The same people who drive

Sun, 2017-02-19 10:50

The same people who drive this stuff, Animal Rights activists have ambitions of banning recreational fishing. They have some appeal to the people who are totally disconnected from the sources of their food and feed on public outrage. They use that public outrage to lobby politicians for marine parks and other restrictions, and we don't even come close to matching their efforts in fighting for our cause.
