Tackle stores in KL Malaysia?

 Hi everyone,

first off I did have a search on here using the search function but could not find much related.

I am heading to Kl with the mrs and whilst there will be wanting to check ut what they have on offer in some of the tackle stores.

Can anyone on here recommend any (names or vague locations would be great).

I believe that middle of the range Shimano and Daiwa gear is made in factories over there?

also Xzoga rod blanks and TenRyu rods ect.

I will mainly be looking to pickup what ever rod or reel bargains are on offer (more top end stuff)

and stock up on braid, lip grips, plastics ect.

so if anyone has been over there before and knows of some good tackle stores to grab some good bargains please let me know

many thanks

Scano

Scano,Was in KL not too long

Scano,

Was in KL not too long ago (couple months) and you have to travel a VERY long way from KL central to get to any fishing shops I could locate. Travel in Malaysia is not as easy as it is here, (takes about a hour to go 50km sometimes more depending on traffic. Gear was cheap given the exchange rate, but rumour is that some of it is "not so original".

I ended up not buying anything...I have family living in KL so if things go well for you could you send me a PM and let me know where you managed to find good gear, I would love to know so that next time I am over there I can stock up.

Hope that helps o.O

Some of you would recognise Darren: Tacklesource, he gets over here for a fish on occasions and has some nice gear.

If you're staying in KLCC the closest is probably Sabre Tackle http://my.wowcity.com/kualalumpur/locbus2/4567973359364108853/sabre-tackle-m-sdn-bhd.htm get on the green monorail and get off at Maharajalela station and cross the road it's about 800m down on the left. They stock jigs, braid,Halco,Owner hooks.

There is also Kepong Tackle http://www.kepongtackle.com/ which is about 15km from KLCC

Tacklesource

I was at his shop in Jan... his shop is hard to find and i had a guide with me. It is located in a place called 'Aman Suria' , Damansara Jaya. It is about 30 mins from KL CBD. He has a great range of gear.

Kepong tackle is also worth a visit...but as the others have said its a fair trek. If you have a friends living there you should ask them to give you a lift there as a taxi ride may be costly.

If not Sabre is your best bet.

Was in KL at the end of 2009

Was in KL at the end of 2009 and went to both Sabre and Kepong tackle. Personnally i would go back to Kepong tackle anyday. Bought so really nice priced reels there. They had all the High end Shimano and Daiwa stuff as well as all the others and even some unknown brands to me. I found Sabre quiet a small store with not as much gear or as cheap. The guys there were nice though they had photos on the wall of when they come to Perth jigging for Sambos. So they do known their stuff. Kepong is a fair way out of the city. But negotiate a good price with your taxi driver and dont go during peak traffic and it will cost you less than a drunken taxi ride home from Northbridge on a saturday night.

Probably depends on what

Probably depends on what you're into really.

Darren specialises in a lot of top jap jigging brands: IMA, Shout!, Evergreen, Bassday, FCl Labo, Fisherman, Majorcraft, some cheaper jap brands like Golden Mean, YGK, Mangrove Studio & seven seas.

Other Jap brands like Megabass, Jackson, Jackall, I think more freshwater stuff.

Yeah he did have all the high end bling. Unfortunatly i am still quiet a simple fisherman and hadnt even heard of half the brands he had in there. But for me where what i usually be buying would come from a place like Campbells, Kepong was better. Their shop is about twice as big too, so even more pretty coloured things to blow my money on e.g LURES!!!! Hahaha!

Scano,Apart from what's

Fri, 2011-09-02 13:24

Scano,

Apart from what's mentioned above, there are 2 additional smaller ones worth a visit.

Getting around KL in public transport is a real pain in the butt. They are either not punctual, dirty or plain inconvenient. Best to rent a car yourself and drive around.

Redhot - near Lim Kok Wing university in PJ. Own by Duel ex lure designer - Suzuki-san. Not a big shop but may have some niche products not found elsewhere.

Tacklebox - Subang Jaya.

One of the best-stocked fly fishing tackle shops in M'sia. Owner Nick is a sport fisherman and knows what he is talking about.

Shimano is made in M'sia (Some models) but Daiwa is made in Thailand.

It's Hari Raya holidays now in M'sia so everything can be a little bit more expensive now and traffic more hectic than usual...especially when you are taking public transport.

Cheers

Hi scano,

I've just replied to your PM. Sorry - I was literally stranded in the middle of the Coral Sea and only just got home.

now back from KL

Fri, 2011-09-16 22:32

Went to just about every tackle store i could find within a half hour radius of the city. Some notes below for those that are interested.

JC tackle in Kepong. met an older guy by the name of Frankie. Nice bloke who certainly knew his stuff. The shop mainly sold Okuma products but I was chasing Daiwa and Shimano. I purchased some small odds and sodds and was on my way.

Kepong tackle had a good range of pruducts and stocked everything including the top end gear. Purchased an Xzoga rod and Stradic reel and a few other lures, leader, hooks ect.

Sabre tackle near the monorail. Again nice guys and they stocked top end reels and good hooks (some good prices on Owner hooks). They have been to Fremantle in Wa before for sambo jigging. They spoke good english and were good to chat to.

Youngs tackle. Stocked most brands and were very good to deal with. Only picked up some bait chaser rigs and a couple of fishing t-shirts but they were one of the most helpful. More of a local shop but definately worth a look.

Majority of the reel prices were much the same as here (because alot of them are from japan anyway) but the treminal tackle and cheaper end rods were a fair bit cheaper than Aus. The age old saying is you get what you pay for so don't go there expecting to find the mother of all bargains on top end products.

By the end of all of that tackle shop hunting the mrs was getting bored so had to go back to the hotel and have a few drinks to cool off.
