Tamala Station Shark Bay land based fishing advise.

Hi All,

Have just recently signed up and am looking forward to getting back into my fishing after years of not having to many fishing trips. Am heading up to Shark Bay's Tamala Station next week with my wife and the dog for a week of camping at Honeymoon Bay. Was hoping that someone might have some advise on fishing around the different areas. Any suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated, i.e. baits, lures, plastics, times, tides and locations. I don't have a boat so will only be fishing from the shore. I have heard its a lovely spot and is reasonably well protected from most of the prevailing winds.

Thanks in advance and would appreciate any advise at all even if its not just about the fishing.

Hi Kuzi,

There has been a multitude of information posted in the past about fishing in Shark Bay (most of which I have read because it is one of my favourite areas to fish) and what you will need so the best advice I could give is to use the search bar on the left of the page. I'm sure you will find all you need to know like what to take and what to expect. The Steep Point website is also a good one to have a look at.

Have a good trip,

Bryce.

Cheers Howa Hunter.

The search works well. Only question I have is how do I get to see the photos on the individual forums that everyone talks about?

Kuzi.

Not sure mate. A more experienced forum user should be able to give you an answer.

Gday, search function is always good, not sure what you mean about the photos? although i think i have noticed before that on really old posts (like over a year old) the photos didnt come up. Otherwise perhaps problem with your browser internet, i dunno.

Anywas, I've been to Shark Bay twice, stayed mostly up the top of the national park (above Denham). First time was in July i think, and at one stretch of beach I did well just casting metals out, got some nice tailor and small mackeral. Tailor were almost all day, Mackies just before sun set. The next time we went was in September, and really struggled. I got a couple of small tailor on metals, resorted to bait to get a couple whiting. fished a spot at night with a live whiting and got a decent tailor, and that was about it.

I posted a report of the first year

http://fishwrecked.com/forum/shark-bay-2010

might give u a general idea. I dont know how different Tamala Station is, whether its really shallow etc (alot of the east side of the main peninsula is) but theres usually Tailor and Whiting around, plus other usual suspects like flathead and Tarwhine in most areas I think. Apparently you don't have to go far in a dhingy to get Snapper and even Baldchin, dunno if you can target them landbased tho.

I'm actually planning to go there next year, i've heard good stuff about it, so hope to see a report when u get back!
