Teach A Chick Some New Tricks!

Hey Peeps. I have had a massive break from fishing other than deep sea fishing which i love but i cant keep going out on charters because ill be bankrupt before i know it. I just wanting to see if there are any groups of peeps out there that go fishing on regular basis that wouldnt mind a chick tagging along to help me get back up to speed seeing i have been M.I.A the last 5 years or so and cant remember anything. Unfortunateky i dont know anyone with a boat and im hopeless at casting so thinking some jetty based stuff is the best for me to get back into it. Probably why i only really seem to be good at deep sea fishing. Actually would love to give squidding another crack too. Or advice on locations for a new newbie to landbased fishing would be heaps handy. Thanks in advance everyone

squiddng from the jetty near

squiddng from the jetty near aqua at hillarys can sometimes produce, not very big, but worth a try. fishng under the traffic bridge in freo can sometimes produce some bream etc, and don't really need to cast far, but a bit tricky to get into. otherwise wading around the shallows of freshwater bay in mosman park and flicking some small lures can catch some flathead. pretty sheltered area so can be comfortable fishing.

No idea to be honest. Probably something like Hillarys. I’m in Balcatta. I don’t have a boat so never thought about it lol

Welcome back Helen...

...if you're down Mandurah way we're having a solid season with yellowfin whiting on lures, and it's been a good summer for tailor and salmon trout in the estuary, if you're into light tackle fishing!

Thanks. I’m not exactly down that way but if it’s worth the drive I’d do it. Apparently the grabbing is good too.

yes , I have grabbed a few things down that way too , but always got slapped or chased away , some people aye?

Anywho welcome back , and yep , prob do some jetty fishing or some gentle rock fishing around some marina walls just to get back into it.

Then you can progress to beach or back to boat when your ready, cheers.

Hahah yeah I’m back so watch

Hahah yeah I’m back so watch out world. Boat fishing isn’t the issue for me it’s the casting that is and remembering all the fishing rules. I’m still pretty good at tying rigs for deep sea, it’s just the land based stuff I need refreshers in

Jeez Guys (and gals)

Tue, 2018-01-23 10:40

Helen said her issue is with casting. I am sure that a few if not many on here can teach Helen this in a matter of hours, if not minutes.
Helen if you are down Mandurah way the Boss (herself a gun caster and better than me, hitting a 5l bucket from 25m consistently) and myself will show you the basics, and it isn't to hard to get the grasp, then its just going out and doing it/practice.

There was also

Tue, 2018-01-23 13:01

years ago a episode with Steve Correia on Fishing WA where he goes through the basics of casting, and he explained it well. Perhaps Google that, because the principles is simple, then executing it follows with just a little effort.
