teaching kids to shoot
Dear fishwreckers,
My young boys are developing a healthy obsession with guns/shooting, I have access to a hunting property buts its 3 hours north, anyway to cut to the chase does anyone out there have 50 acres plus that that would be willing to allow me to teach my boys how to target shoot and handle guns the right way. (.22lr). I have mates with 5 acre blocks but quite rightly they are hesitant in this day and age , hell its risky even to shoot an air rifle in your own yard now. Absolute safety is a priority and I am more than happy to compensate with your choice of cold beverage. I've been shooting for 20 years now I want my boys to experience the same "real life". Been members of clubs before but could never attend enough with my work schedule.
I'm NOR so anywhere up or out that way would be awesome. I know how hard it is to trust people these days so any PMs will be greatly appreciated.

Ive taken all my kids to the range on quite a few occasions, from 8 upwards.
Ironically it is handguns that are easiest for them to control physically as the rifles are just too large.
Sadly i feel the need to tell mine not to discuss firearms at school or elsewhere.
For hunting Id just take them along to watch but not participate until they are a competent shot and physically able which may be 13-15.
My missus wont let me take them along yet, which i respect.
As the slogan goes "kids that hunt and fish dont take drugs and steal"
Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

Realize you are probably very competent with firearms and want more of the family time ....also you've already looked into the clubs side of things with this.
but my girl ...as an 11/12 year old learned to shoot at the local range.
Was training for the Tetrathon....Riding running swimming and target shooting. (we try to do this each year)
Must say it was a good experience for her, trained with her team and local pony club. and it was fairly much a "family" occasion with lots of kids and their parents attending.
Guys there very professional.
if you are into shooting, maybe train at the club and save the 3hr ride for special occasions.
but hope you do find somewhere.
Robs slogan seems pretty true.

pcyc's
I recall years ago my firends and i joined the local pcyc as they did indoor target shooting with air rifles, and im pretty sure they did step up to .22s aswel
Might be worth giving your local pcyc a call? It extremely hard to find people willing to lend you their property nowadays unless your a blood relative. Its even harder to obtain a firearm license
Good things come to those who bait.

I ask politely and have heaps if I can get the time, license,,,,just get a letter off a farmer ,don't be a nutter, get a good gun safe , unfortunately its a piece of piss to get license.
I find getting leave off the missus the hardest part,

thanks to those that have PM me, I am still looking for a block to target shoot please don't PM suggesting "the pines". fark that , if I lost my guns it would be like the police saying -you can never fish again.
