Would like to thank you all for comments on cancer. gave me a big lift so my wish is that every member that smokes give it a miss.
3 months ago I was painting with my son 50 hrs a week, now can barely get out of bed lost 15 kgs. let me tell you there is little warning and the heartbreak look on your kids face is unbearable.
my best advice if you have mates that smoke is not to say give that dirty shit away it won't work. try To encourage, it shows your sincere about it.
thanks for listening it helps to talk about it

So sorry for you and family ,
So sorry for you and family , all i can say . My wifes dad [ who i liked more than my own ] had bone cancer .never smoked , played tennis ,golf ,fit guy and passed at 57 after a year of battling it . He had six kids all between 20 - 30 at the time , was devestating . My mum is the same age now , smokes , has her whole adult life ,drinks alot and is overweight . Can't get her to quit , even with my son 3 an half in front of her and me saying may not see him as an adult , just a waste of money ,health and time smoking is . Chin up mate and i wish you all the comfort possible .
Dhui on river to sea jig a few years back , 16 kg ! PB for me .

Smoking give it away for good
Well done Tomcat thanks for your latest thread its good to see you still have inner strength to post your feelings on smoking.
What more has to be said on the scourge of smoking, as tomcat indicates it gives you very little warning and when it does strike its to late. So all of you guys that are still smoking for your families sake and your own please give up this filthy dirty habit. I can say with my hand on heart I gave up smoking approx 1 year ago and yes at times it was difficult but I have never felt better.
I can only hope that I stopped in time because I have also witnessed the end result of smoking.
If 1 person stops due to this thread then I think its worth it. Look on the bright side lets say you are spending $150.00 a week and you manage to kick the habit thats $7.800.00 A YEAR a hell of a lot of spare cash for some new fishing toys. I make no appology for my views on this smoking debate so lets all stop and get on with living. PS I was a smoker for the best part of 30 years what a mug I was.

Just a thought on the ciggies
If the govt were dinkum, they would make smoking illegal until say 30 years old,
how many people do you know whom took it up at that age?
Most would have matured by then , and also add the cost of the medical costs
per smoker to your packets.
So sorry for your probs mate, lets just hope the take up rates slow to nothing in the future,
Do the govt still have a $ take on the smokes ? , if they do , hang there heads in shame.

I think the answer to
I think the answer to stopping smoking is really easy, but we just keep saying thats its not ....here my answer. The legal age to buy smokes is currently 18, so just increase the age limit each year by one .So in 2013 ,you will need to be 19 to buy smokes,2014 you will need to be 20 etc etc .... really not that difficult hey !!! maybe its not the complete answer but if preventing under 18s helps, why wouldnt increasing the age each year also ... Sorry to hear of your pain Tomcat, wishing you all the best .

Hard time
All the best with the treatment, hoping it gives you some peace. It took my dad and my mum is now terminal, on her third dose of the big C. Still smokes, stupid, but no doubting they didn't have the awareness we have now. Seeing a teenager smoking drives me insane.....
The best reason for doing what's right today is tomorrow.

Ill keep working at it
Thanks for that Tomcat... Im on about my 800th attempt to quit... Ive started reading the Alan carr book.. Im sick of the bloody things but they still have a hold!!
The FIL had another stroke about 3 mths back, and threw em in the bin and hasnt looked back so far.. and loving the diff its making to his other health(still got lots of stroke effects holding him back)
Troy
PS age restrictions etc will stop nothing, cant think of anyone that actually started smoking at legal age... the government is sitting on a cash cow, and will NEVER totally ban it

i am going to make my wife read your post mate, i have been trying to get her to quit for years.
we made an agreement when we brought our first house 12years ago for both of us to quit!!
i did and have never picked it up again, but after 12 mths i caught her hiding down the side of the house puffing away, i have been trying ever since.
cheers mate and thanks for sharing your story.
