Things we have to do, call out

Got a phone call at the roadhouse at 0600, couple of tourists had come across a roo that had a broken leg and was still alive a couple of km down the road and wanted to know if I could call a ranger to put it down.

Shaking my head, ask if they have wheel spanner they can give it a crack with, oh no, can't do that, so got hornet out and went for a quick drive.

Pulled up, put bolt and  mag in rifle and from about  a foot from behind head fired shot, of course at that range half of head is going to disappear and it certainly did. Looked like European tourists who had never been bush before were about to both faint. Unloaded gun hopped in car and back to work. Time I did a U turn they were both herking their breakfast up, one has to be careful what you ask for these days because the man from Wolf Creek might still be around!

We have been too busy to pull the knives out and do one of the heaps of goats around for a change of diet for us. Maybe one of the first jobs when I get back from down in the cold country

I remember hearing about some chic that called a ranger in Dunsborough and the Ranger tried to euthenise the roo when she went bat shit, wouldn't allow it but he did anyway then she tried to take it further citing animalcruelty...

100% you did the right thing but unfortunately we can get in strife acting humanely nowadays...

Doggers

Wed, 2020-10-07 10:41

Had 3 doggers around in the last 4 months.

Son spotted a dingo crossing just south of Edagee rest area at 8.00 pm a couple of months back, 2 days later he went out to inspect a goat carcass out the back of the roadhouse and very large dog prints around it, so we know they are there.

One of the doggers got one in the middle of the day, trotting straight down the road toward him like he didn't exist. 5 unborn pups inside.

The contractors putting up the new dog fence extension are just about due back, their contract is for 380 odd Km of new fence running down to join up with the original south of Billabong
