Third time lucky (warning - dead animals)

On my third trip to Victoria, I finally managed to get my first sambar deer on the deck, two in fact.

The first was one was a malform stag, the second one was an absolute cracker, approximately 27" x 27".

Here's a few pics.

 Just to carry them back

Sat, 2015-10-10 21:09

Just to carry them back would have been hard work.  What would each have weighed 80-100kg?

What do you do with the antlers ? mount them for your trophy cabinet?  Are you allowed to bring them back to WA?

First one was about 180kg, the big boy about 300kg.

Flew home with the antlers as checked baggage (Qantas).

Good luck

Good luck in Canada SF! Love to see some pics when you return (even via email if that works).

Sambar are a tough animal to hunt, they have so much in their favour. Time in the bush as usual though certainly helps.

Spot the wallaby !

Thu, 2015-10-15 18:48

Is it a coincidence of the bark on the tree or is there a face looking at us in the third photo. Off to the right. Maybe i am seeing [ pictures in the clouds ] Have only had 4 beers, so not too far gone yet.

Starting to heat up in Kunners John, seems by some of the trips you have done, you are enjoying what life throws your way.

3rd photo is a sambar calf, can't see the wallaby.

Getting ready to hit up the crays soon.

R/H/S bottom in the dead tree- the dear is obvious

Thu, 2015-10-15 20:45

It may just be a hole in the timber, but the first time i saw it, my bush brain said animal !

Barra are only just starting, as hot weather was delayed by 3 weeks. Only just getting to 40 now, much later than the previous 25 years.
