Tiger shark eating qualities

Noticed a few tiger sharks getting caught and have got a few myself which I have released. Has anyone ever tried eating them and what was your opinion?

Al Mcglashen is a shark

Al Mcglashen is a shark advocate that thinks none should be harmed. Of coarse he is going to say they are shit eating and they should all be released.

tigers are part of the whaler family, I havent eaten a tiger but plenty of smallish whalers and rate them highly, so I wouldnt imagine they would be much different

Very small

Mon, 2014-12-29 10:41

The very small ones, up to about 1.2 metres in length are semi reasonable, anything bigger than that don't waste its life because they are shocking to eat and the bigger the are the more mercury in the flesh.

Few

Didn't see too many smaller ones down that way, but what were there were big, like 4 metre plus and would say approx. 3-6% of total catch numbers

Up north it was completely the opposite with 20% of catch and lots of smaller ones to go with the whoppers--5 metre plus big girls and mostly in pup. With the pups, if they were alive back they go, if dead equals tomorrows bait.

Awesome, yeh I always remember seeing u at canal on your boat called down south. U always wore a beanie I'm pretty sure and always brought in huge catches. Did the sharks frequent a certain area off canal?

Wyadup to Yallingup

Tue, 2014-12-30 09:47

The area from the cliff north of Yallingup through Wyadup were barren as far as sharks go, but the rest from east of Augusta to Myalup fishes well depending in what time of the year and if Nick or Brian hadn't gone through before you.

Spot on with the boat and the South Freo beanie

 I sharked fished out of

Mon, 2014-12-29 19:58

I sharked fished out of Albany/Esperence for a few season about 15 years a go. One morning we dragged a small tiger on board right out the front of King George Sound, couldn't believe that it was that far south in the middle of winter.

Like said previously the little ones are ok, it's the same with bronzies the smaller the better. Gummies are very good on the chew as are whiskery sharks. I personally wouldn't go near a hammer head (big or small) though, they always had a strong smell when pulling them out of the nets and can be soft/mushie when cleaned, I think we were getting a dollor a kg for them then.

Yeah we put the nets in

Tue, 2014-12-30 08:53

Yeah we put the nets in along Cheynes on a few occasions can't remember what we got there. We used to fish out wider there around Bald Island and beyond we did do well at times. There is some bloody big sharks down that way had the nets destroyed quite frequently. We only really came in close on full moons (bronzies) or when the weather was cranking. We pretty much fished all the bays from Chatham Island down to Esperance/Eucla and have caught numerous sharks in each spot. Like anywhere given the right conditions they'll be floating around.
