Went to go out in sons boat this morning and the tilt rams stopped working. We did golf instead so had a good day.Anyone here a mobile boat mechanic who could deal with it.It seems to have power as I can hear the solonoid.Regards Duncan. Its a 90 Mercury from 1988 we should just get a new 4 stroke

Could be a trim motor...?
I just changed mine recently on my yamaha f100. It Was intermittently responding.
not too hard. I had a look on YouTube. Thankfully the ram was fine and it was only the trim motor.
the trim motors can be exxy though. Hopefully they’re cheaper for your merc.
Mine was about $500 from a guy in Qld. A gen yamaha one was about $1200....
My mechanic can be selectively mobile. Bravo marine in Bayswater. Doesn’t hurt to ask.
cheers

eBay
...and if you're in a pinch, you can source a trim motor on eBay for a lot less - like around $200 shipped..
to test if it's the trim motor, if you give the trim motor a (light) whack with a hammer and it responds, then this could be the culprit.
