Today at the North Mole

Went for a mid-morning fish down at the North mole armed with a couple of small spin rods and a bag of prawns and managed to get half a dozen gardies, a couple of nice herring and 4 or 5 small skippy that were quickly returned. Only caught 2 blowies the whole time!!! Some of the older men down there were reeling in gardies almost every cast at one point (will have to invest in some of those berley cages that don't have the lead in the bottom) and saw another guy tangle with a thumper of a north-west blowie! High-light/low-light of the day was seeing a school of maybe 50 salmon or so cruise past only metres from the rocks but by the time i whacked on a metal slice they were long gone Frown Just wondering if anyone else has been down there lately and had any luck? By the way fished the south-side of the mole due to the wind Wink

Cheers

My parents went down there this arvo and said they seen a nice school of salmon aswell, shows gotta have that spare rod really with a lure. good to hear that the gardies are in good numbers though, can always do a few home mods to your leaded up berley cages mate, all you need is pliers.

that school is sea mullet, They're there everyday. Actually happens quite often that they're mistaken for salmon.

And the gardies are plagued at the mole. The weighted cage is mainly for skippy n whiting. Doesnt really matter what you throw out as long as its floating. With or without berley doesnt really matter as theres so many around. We pulled in 40 odd gardies in a session not long ago and didnt use one bit of berley. As long as its a surface rig and consists of size 8-12 hooks, you'll get em.

There has been salmon landed there lately, though the schools are tiny. Maybe 10 at most in the school and averaging the 5kg mark.

I hear they're still bein picked up around metro groins, pretty much here, there n everywhere as it hasnt been consistant.

sounds like a good session

sounds like a good session for you. the cages that always worked well for me was the ones that had a bit of polystirene in them but found that if you cut half of it out the rig would sit just below the surface which i found good for gardies and herring. they arent expencive, maybe a couple of $ now days
