Todays Effort

Picked these up today in the river. All came on an SX-40. Yes even the whiting was on the SX-40, in fact it was the very first cast I put out for the day. Lost a second smaller (not by much) whiting as I lifted it from the water. My partner in crime for the morning cracked it for a 45cm flatty as well but I'll leave him to post up pictures of that if he wants to after I've emailed them to him later.

Thanks guys.

DJ, don't know what's with the choppers tail, was like that when I caught it & it still fought pretty well. Maybe the choppers tail got choppered.

Bitten, This one was my first on a lure so I was pretty stoked when I landed it. Perfect time to be getting into the lures for whiting though I reckon.

Johnny, yup that whiting is going to go down a treat for my brekky in about another hour. Everything else was released.

Noxious, thanks, I saw one landed tonight went 41cm so there's some big ones around at the moment.

I'll show you where if we manage to go for a fish on the weekend Craig.

Purple/silver is my favourite colour in the river by a mile followed by green/silver.

Believe it mate, I can even

Believe it mate, I can even show you the exact spot the photo with the rod was taken so you could match the boards up to the photo. Seems the average size of all the species in the river is bigger this year than usual. Seen what I would call unusual captures in the river to, a 41cm king george upstream of bicton baths & a near enough 60cm bluespot from near the water police. All the metro fishing has been exceptional this year.

if thats where i think it is, we used to get quite a few down there but not quite that big many years ago when the water in the river was clear. clear enough that you could see the bottom in the channel at canning bridge

Bluespot as in flathead? Or Emperor? Whiting are my favourite fish to catch. Anyone know any spots in the river for them?

As in Flathead Glenn087. Lots

Wed, 2012-11-14 18:20

As in Flathead Glenn087. Lots of places for whiting in the river, as Spinnerak mentioned Point Walter is a good place to start but there's plenty of others. The flats just upstream of the old traffic bridge are a favourite place of mine to hunt big yellowfin. Just jump on google maps & look for sandy flats between point walter & freo, most of them will hold whiting at some point.
