Todays's Report (Sat) For The River........, for a 1hr fishing session......

After reading and hearing reports of ppl catching mini sambos in the river thought I give it a try with my brother in tow.

I with a dumbell 110 popper and him with a 4" Tsunami soft plastic shad......hit the spot at lunch time...started fishing.......found one fish.....I missed....he hooks up.......10mins later.....

Sadly this fish didn't take release well.....kept popping back up.
Got a breamer in his boat to swim him, no luck either. He decided to take it to Murdoch Uni to see what they find out it.

Mutant

That is a mutant honsu!  Looks like he is pretty fat, must have gone a few kilograms..

Good on you for taking it into murdoch to find out more about it.. That is one of the wierdest fish deformaties i've ever seen.

On the fishing note.. We were trolling in the river most of yest afternoon.. Had a few small hits but no tailor hookups..  Tried a few spots up east fremantle way and got blown away by blowies on the plastics..

Amazing capture!

Which part of the river were you targetting them honsu?

We tried from east freo all the way down to matilda bay without any luck with 2 slices out and one shallow diver.. maybe it was just quiet for the tailor on sunday..

I fished from the platform under Canning Bridge where I can access the dropoffs easily. Plenty there. but getting a size one is the hard part.

Thanks for sharing Tommy, they aren't quite there yet.. hopefully their size will pick up soon..

My mate said he saw you catch that one honsu! Said it was chasing the popper a few times and then soon as you let the shad hit the bottom it was on.. crazy stuff.. you might have to take some heavier bream gear next time if theres going to be ones like that and maybe even bigger there..!!
