tonights mullet

was a late solo start tonight, but still managed to get a feed of crabs and some mullet for bait... net was in the water by 7pm and out by 9pm (gave up at 9 as the big rays showed up) HEAPS of prawns kicking about atm so wouldn't take much to get a feed if that's your thing, also the sized crabs I caught had heaps of pink showing on their underbelly so should be packed with meat...

Bloody rays

I must confess that on more than one occasion I have had the living hell scared out of me whilst checking my net for mullet, those damn big black rays are not going to give up having a free feed of mullet out of your net no matter what you do. I have tried to push them away with a prawn net, given one or two a kick whilst wearing waders and all to no avail. When they decide it's feed time then that is what it is.

When the estuary is dark brown like it is now it is very hard to see them when they feed on the bottom caught fish in the net and if you tread on one it is the most excitement you need for the rest of the year believe me.

I caught one one night on a line and cut it up to use as cray bait, 3 day soak and nothing even went to have a nibble from it, ok we'll try using it for crab bait same story. zip
