Towing Boats
Submitted by Mark Willy on Sat, 2009-09-26 19:14
Greetings all, my first question as a new member. Has any one out there towed boats eg. up to 1.5 tonne in gross with a new petrol Colarado/Rodeo V6. If so how was the fuel economy and performance?

your better off going the
your better off going the 3ltr turbo diesel, you get better economy all round with the diesel, yeah it costs just a bit more but better off in the long run. oh and welcome to the site

1.5 ton is not much and can easily be pulled by most cars.

its not just the gross
its not just the gross weight you need to look at , there is also the amlount of fuel and gear you will be carrying in the boat when going away or just down to your local ramp

mat e i have an 06 rodeo, but i believe its the same donk as the collarado (3.6L out of teh VE commodore but tuned for torque).
i've towed a bit with it. less than impressive i reckon, compared to towing with a VE anyway. don't get me wrong, its a great bus and goes anywhere, but its amazing the power difference from the same motor when compared to my mrs's VE commodore.
i pulled an old 15' glass boat with gear etc to exxy recently and did about 24-25L/100km. its a big high wind resistant tub and teh rodeo sat on 110-120 but took a little fuel to do it.
i converted mine to gas - best thing ever. drive EXCACTLY the same with a minor increase in consumption (16l/100km went up to 17.5l/100km).
all in all i'm stoked with the car. if i was getting a T/D i would get a new hilux though. their 3l common rail is awsome. super powerful and economic as anything.
best of luck, and have fun.

Yeh your right about the engine being the same, the fuel economy doesn't seem to bad concidering others that I have read about. I was mere concerned about the performance, eg.dropping of heeps of speed going up small rises etc. Got the 2004 Auto 2.5 Lt (Isuzu engine) Rodeo at the moment and it's a shocker. Cheers for the reply!

no probs
no worries Mark. performance is ok. can still overtake road trains and do what speed you want up all but med-large hills and then its not so bad really.
Bill, that would have the 3.5L ecotech motor?
my bro in law had one and was stoked with it's power. also had similar economy to mine but i guess they're all different.
did holden have anything to say about blowing up a donk after 85k? seems a bit hectic.
