Toyota V8

This is a warning to those of you that have one, when the oil filter is removed from its housing a sleave that the filter sits on can come away with the filter.
If the person is not aware of this sleave and the new filter is installed into the housing ,the filter can be sucked in on its self .
This has happened to my car after doing 1000k after the service, causing major engine failure.

Yep- Toyota have made the
Yep- Toyota have made the "wise" decision to fit Cartridge Type Oil Filters, instead of the simple Spin-on Type Filters.
They are not the only Manufacture to do this. I hope you didn't carry out your own Service?
Very expensive lesson for someone.

Its actually not easy to "remove" that piece from memory?
I replaced the factory plastic filter head with the aluminium one of a Crown?, identical except for that part which you swap from the original.
I recall it taking a bit of fiddling to swap?

Understand
More maybe that the mechanic probably deliberately removed it for whatever reason than it "came away".
Curious though as to how it was discovered, did the servicing people investigate and own up or did you get someone else to check it out?

Update , spoke to insurance company on Thursday, new (second hand ) motor goes in this Wednesday comes with full history and only 50000 Ks on it , and 6 months warranty.
Happy with the deal as my motor had 180 000 on it , extremely happy that our Christmas plans are back on track.
