Albany Crays

Hi Guys

Just chasing a bit of info about potting for Crays in Albany.
Does anybody do it or is it not worth it?

Will be down there for a couple weeks over christmas and was thinking of taking the pots down.

Cheers Jayce

I have asked a few guys down

I have asked a few guys down there at times, same in Bremer Bay, though they say they are few and far between.

I have always thought it was a bit strange considering they are caught in Esperance

I have heard they are there

I have heard they are there but only in certain patches. There are no pro's that work out of there. Bit strange as the ground all seems so perfect for them.

 Be more southern fighters

Be more southern fighters and I think you catch less in the box pots we use over here, would get the odd 1 or 2. I think they catch better in the round beehive sticky pots? Not too sure though...

If its anything like

If its anything like Esperance hardly any rec fishers will drop pots for them. Down here you have to put a lot of effort and fuel in to get any crays at all. One guy pulled his pots 6 times in for just one cray last fortnight. Weather makes it hard too.

Granite bottom isn't much good

Simply not very good habitat, no cover unless you can get lots of boulders tumbled together. Limestone bottom is much better, erodes and forms caves and ledges. I went out with a pro from Lucky bay west of Esperance years ago, they didn't catch a lot, said the limestone ground towards Eucla and beyond was much better.
