Trailcraft 540 sports cab with mariner 115hp 2 stroke.

Just moving up from a tinnie and looking at buying a 06 trailcraft for 38k. What are your opinions on these boats.

Have a 20hp Mariner on my tinny. Great motor. Can ignore it for years and it starts after a couple of pulls.

that is alot of money-skip it

that is alot of money-skip it and shop around.

I sold my 03 TC 5.8 with Yam F115 (4 atroke 350hrs) for $32K with an excellent dual axle trailer (bought for $29K) and thought it was a good price.

Dont pay that sort of coin for anything 8 years old with a 2 stroke outboard unless you like bending over in a public shower.

Im guessing it is a dealer?

That seems exxy for a 18ft

Sun, 2014-05-04 19:22

That seems exxy for a 18ft boat thats 8years old with a 2stk.... But anyway Mariner are rebadged Mercury no difference. Have a look at the service history and get a mechanic to do a basic mechanic test

The boat in my profile pick is a 540 runabout and it was good- If you use the search function JohnF used to have one as well... From the pics he posted  caught some brilliant fish from it.  Take it for a spin and see how you like it

I have a trailcraft and they are purpose built and very solid boats. They are far from the best boat going around but are value for money. I agree 38k sound a bit much. The outboard you could argue til the cows come home but I like the japanese motors. Goodluck with finding your new toy

Sun, 2014-05-04 20:05

It does seam a bit steap but there aint much arround in my price bracket that ticks the boxes, went for a spin in it today. Didnt seam very fast but ive got a jet ski and a tinne so nothing to compair with realy.

I need a bit of a cab for pos overnighters or a fair bit of deck, i want to get out when the weather is a bit rough (not the perfect storm type)

Ill prob give this 1a miss then cos those glued down coins in the mens a a fooker to get off.

You can get a lot of boat for that amount of money

Sun, 2014-05-04 20:28

 Mate,

There's some good boats out there for that amount of money, thirty eight k for an eighteen foot ali with a two stroke seems not much boat for the money.  There are some excellent publications around on value for money 2nd hand boats and plenty of good boats in your price range.

Good luck with it and contact me if you can't track the publications down, there's great boats around for that coin

Right Ive got a couple more

Mon, 2014-05-05 17:25

Right Ive got a couple more prices from different people, Ive found a 06 with a 110hp optmax 2 stroke for $33500 from a dealer, nice clean boat done around 250 hrs, another 2007 with a 4 stroke 90hp Mercury on it for $34500. Decent nick need a clean on a twin wheel trailer, the thing is, is the 4stroke 06 worth 1k more that the 2 smoker?

Four stroke definitely better

Mon, 2014-05-05 19:01

Four stroke definitely better , (quieter, cleaner, generally better resale and less fuel) all else being equal.

Should be able to get better deals privately - just check service history on motor (as for service invoices and see if they report anything amiss or fixed any problems) and pay to get a report once you're pretty sure you going to make an offer.
