I was going with the tm260 on the new boat but contemplating the equivalent as in hull for doing deeper water. It's a plate boat and my question is how robust are the in hull units as the boat drags its belly quite often across very shallow sand bars to get out the mouth.Would it handle it ?
cheers

I'm forgetting the in hull
I'm forgetting the in hull idea.
Can anyone suggest a retailer where I can buy a TM260 to suit furuno? I'm travelling from the bush to Armadale on Saturday morning so anywhere from Bunbury to there would be a help.
cheers

The in hull would be better
The in hull would be better than transom mount for shallow crossings. Its just a flat disc that sits on the bottom of your hull. Unless you are going for fairing block style buried into water - which could be an issue

Forget the TM260
Hey Bodgy
Dont waste your time with a 260. Get a 265 Low High transducer. I traded out my 260 for a 265 and was brilliant in both shallow and deep water up to about 500m

Yes
Yes the 588 should run the 265. When you go from shallow to deep / deep to shallow change your hertz from 200 to 50 depending on your depth
I got mine from Blue bottle too Andy!
Cheers

No
The 265 is a CHIRP ducer, the 588 is not a CHIRP sounder. - nor is the 295.
Don't worry about a P66

Chirp transducer
I had a ss175h-w which is a chirp transducer running on a 587 and it worked fine, you can run chirp trannys on non chirp sounders but you don't get the full benefit of the band width is my understanding.

When I bought my transducer,
When I bought my transducer, it was about a 4 month wait despite them being advertised.
The thru hull certainly does give a very clean picture even at speed
