Hey all
Looking at buying and bring a 4500kg RAM from NSW to Perth.
Never done this and so looking for info on how someone on here has done it.
Cost estimate and more importantly time frame, rego process, insurance across the country etc etc.
Which carrier is best.
Or should i Drive and collect... it's 3700kms.
Any info - all welcome.
Thanks guys.

This doesn't make sense?
This doesn't make sense?
Some RAMS are only 3500kg rated but this is due to the diff ratio, unfortunately that cannot be changed or uprated.
Maybe this is what Russ is talking about?

Damage
I work in an allied industry, someone like Prix Car, CEVA etc are going to keep your car safe and charge so much, you could have driven it yourself twice in $$$
Anyone else, it comes with scartches, dings, trees, birds, someone living in it etc I have seen it all !! And wont be much cheaper.
I would drive it any day of the week.
Also, there is the option of sea freighting it. Anything inside will be stolen by the overseas crew but the cars are generally untouched.
Works out cheaper as well.

Ive done it twice, from
Ive done it twice, from Queensland and Victoria for a 100 series and a 200 series.
But the rules have changed a little.
It was the case in Queensland that you could transfer it into your name for about a 1/3 of the Stamp Duty then here it was only the inspection fee, refund rego in Qland and pay here.
Victoria I just left it in his name until I got home.
Drive it across, especially this time of year, it seems like a boring run but it is actually a fantastic road trip, not a dull moment.
If its unregistered you can get permits and from memory a WA Temporary Movement Permit is valid in NT and SA as well, can apply to get it longer than 48hrs.

If you have a western
If you have a western Australian address, they don't let you have a east coast rego. So to be legal you have to have a movement permit from the border. It's only to go to a place of repair or to be registered.
WA the nanny state, it might affect any insurance if you needed to make a claim for whatever reason.

At the time you could sign
At the time you could sign an undertaking that you would transfer the rego upon returning to your home state.
I guess Queensland loved it because they got the Stamp Duty ($1000) instead of WA ($4000).
You can of course not "enact" the transfer until you get home, but this relies on an element of trust from both parties.
Movement permits are no big deal, except you find yourself getting pulled over all the time for no number plates.
The other issue is that it can at times be difficult getting comprehensive insurance for a car on the road prior to it being licenced with a plate number, as dumb as that it...

I have flown over driven
I have flown over driven back the 3 times 1 bike 2x truck , that way u can also check it personally
U can ask insurance for a cover letter with only the engine and vin number supplied
every time except the bike i had previous owner let me drive over on their rego - with a written agreement i was the driver from specified date
the bike i had a mates queensland adress, where i "kept" it for a year if u low on points on your licence , get a qld drivers licence while u there, gives u 12 full points again ;p
make sure there is no seeds etc stuck anywhere - had biosecurity give me a clean up notice, which can only be done at an approved site - big money removing seeds from engine bay , i didnt know otherwise i would have done it myself

So where'd they pull you up for that? At the border? I din't know seeds were a problem only fruit and honey.
The only place I know where seeds are a problem is A class reserves like Barrow island.

i got pulled up years ago coming back into to WA from the NT and they were more worried about going through my dogs fur looking for grass seeds than they were about what i had in my car
