Transporting boat from Perth to Darwin

Just wondering if anyone knows a rough figure on how much an exercise like transporting my 4.1m tinnie and trailer may cost?

If it works out to be close to the cost of just driving my tinnie up there myself, i'll probably just do that and make a road trip out of it.

Basically my brother is being posted up to the N.T and i plan to 'loan' him my tinnie for the next 3 years. So it means all i will have to do is fly up there to go for a barra fish and i will have my boat and his 4x4 waiting for me! And free accomadation.

I looked at getting mine

I looked at getting mine trucked from Perth to Exmouth. It's a 4.3m hull and 6m overall from outboard to tow coupling. Quotes ranged from $1000 to $1500 to Exmouth so there's a guide. They go on length it takes up on the truck, not weight or anything else. I doubt if you'll find a truck that's cheaper than driving it yourself, just need to work out if it's worth the km's and time off work for a trip that distance.

Try Shaws Transport, we got

Try Shaws Transport, we got them to take stuff up and back from Darwin when I moved up to live for a while and it was pretty well priced I thought?

It's a fair drive from here to Darwin but lots of places to see along the way! I drove with my wife and 2 friends from Albany up to Darwin and then out into Arnhemland a few years back, great experience! Make sure your aircon is working tho if you're thinking of going up anytime soon :) Ours died just out of halls creek and it was a hot drive on to darwin!

and the cheapest quotei got from darwin to bunbury was $3600 and I rang alot of companys. I ended up selling it as my tow vehicle wouldnt have made the trip. The bloke payed $1600 to get it to Bairnsdale in VIC. Take into account wet season to mate as some roads do get cut off and are inpassable for bigger trucks down the west coast, or so i was told

Cheers for the ideas guys.

Cheers for all the ideas guys. I did a bit of phoning around to various companies and the prices seemed to range from $2000-$3500. I was think bloody hell! going to have to pay that as well as fly up there and back!

But after a bit of negotiating with my brother he has agreed to drive his prado down from Katherine, pick me and the boat up, then we will drive back together. We estimate total fuel he will use to do it(being very generous to remote locality fuel prices) will be in the $1000 vicinity. Then all i have to do is fly back. Road Trip, then when i get there Fishing Trip!

We know that at the time of year we are planning (March/April) roads can be cut off from swollen rivers, but plan to give ample time incase we have to stay in a town and wait for the river to drop, but also to be flexible with the timing in regards to what rivers are flooded, have been flooded and are a high chance of being flooded. All part of the 'fun' of a road trip though :)

By the way just dhu it, thats not Gnarloo mud, thats dust stains impregnated into the metal from when i used to live in the N.T with my boat in 2004! Haha!
Gotta love the red dust, especially when you get a quick down pour and it turns it into a skiing pan. Jack Knife go on! Hahahahaha.

Again thanks to all for your ideas. Now i'll see if anyone is crazy enough to join me and my brother on this expedition!

Fished the Vic once before, BIIIIG WIDE river. Didnt do to well, but then again we only fished it one day and had no idea what we were doing.

My brother will be living in Katherine, so in the middle of the big three Victoria/Daly/Roper. Plan to hit all three, depending on what the fishing reports are like. Plan to also go up to Darwin to stay with a friend and head out to the Mary River(Shady Camp) and give Tommycut a crack.

All should be good so long as we dont get caught at a flooded river. Then again might just have to stay there and fish. There's always opportunity if your willing!
