The Travelling Lure - a bit of fun

hey guys

i saw this idea on another forum and i thought it would be alot of fun and also very intersting.

the idea is, i will buy a lure (lure to be decided) and take it out for a fish, catch one (only one) fish and take a photo of it and post it up here (along with a little story). i will then pass the lure on to someone else, who will do the same thing, then they will pass it on etc..

if the lure is lost, snagged or damaged beyond reapir, the last happy fisherman must replace the lure with another equivalent and forward to the next fisherman.

this should be very interesting seeing how many fish we can get on the lure, and it can be posted all around the state (so the boys up north can show us up hahaha)and it will be a travelling lure, catching everythink from salmon down south to queenies up north.

What does everyone think?? sounds like fun yeah??

Halco Twisty...

Wed, 2009-04-08 20:39

Is it still Australian made?

Owned maybe? Maybe....

Don't get me wrong, i love Halco lures, and use all types of them, but don't think there made by Aussies..

Could be wrong, i hope i am.

they make them in Freo. I could be wrong, but they claim they design, engineer and manufacture - thats what sets them apart?? That was the story when I visited anyways.....

yeah i reckon twisty would be good. everything from herring and tailor in the metro, salmon down south and queenies trevors up north.

would be an intersting experiment seeing all the different species it can catch.

I'd suggest using a fairly unique lure instead of a halco twisty, otherwise we can just post pics of peoples catch off any halco.

if the lure is quite unique it'll have a better effect with the thread.

an expensive engraving like the fishwrecked boat sticker with the shark on it, thatl keep anyone from losing it haha.

Halco would sponsor us with this ay?

I mean if we are proving they have the most versatile lure by sending it all around the state then im sure they could send us a few of em as replacements or something ;)

Im in. Halco gold twisty for sure. You can use it north, south, boat, shore, troll, spin, jig and fresh water (north and south). And it does not cost a fortune to replace. Otherwise use Brad's retired GT Popper. LOL!!!!

Not that much organisation

Wed, 2009-04-08 20:20

Not that much organisation required. If blake gets the lure and engraves then everyone else just needs to repeat steps 1 to 4

  1. Get the lure
  2. Catch one fish with it
  3. Post the picture on the forum
  4. Pick someone and send the lure to them.

If you loose it you buy a replacement and get it engraved

How about instead of

Thu, 2009-04-09 16:18

How about instead of engraving it, getting it coloured somehow. Spray it a unique colour, so whenever we see it, it will be very obvious its the fishwrecked lure. An engraving would indentify it, but might be hard to see in pictures. Could be somewhat iconic if it was a fairly interesting colour. Perhaps just dip/spray the top third.

(might be a little hard with a twisty, but not necessarily impossible)

Talking to Blake and Doug tonight we all come to the conculsion we are going to now run 2 of these travelling lures, the one with the tristy and have now added a 2oz Richter white plug in, kindly donated by the tackle shack, we thought it would be a good one to see how many different species people can nail on the very simple but effective plug

i think we have the idea just to have it the one colour, keep it simple bugga having to paint and engrave things, starts taking away the fun behind the idea and if people cant be honest about it and think painting and engraving needs to be done then maybe they shouldnt take possession of either lure

KISS

Keep it simple StUppid! It honestly said The travelling lure. Not lures. It would be diluted if to many of these lures flew the place and that would honestly loose some of the fun. 1 lure, 1 person. Blake it is your call but I think that whatever you call is the way to go. I just hope I get a go here in Dampier. But I sux at photography. Cant waste my time to get in for just one more fish.

IT IS A GREAT IDEA. Keep it KISS.

Can you let me know when it comes south to bunbury area. I have some willing participants out on the reef who might like their photo taken.
