Trim reading on Smart Gauge
Submitted by Guardy on Mon, 2015-06-01 12:57
Hi, I've got a 150HP Optimax and the other day the Trim on my Smart Gauge stopped working. Normally when I start to trim the motor the trim read out displays but now nothing. When I go thru the menu I can find the trim but it is reading way out and looks completely different to what I'm normally looking at. Anyone know what could have happened or who I could take it to to be repaired? I live SOR. Cheers

Most likely the pot
Most likely the pot (potentiometer) on the outboard. It has a spring loaded arm that follows the leg as you tilt it, and sends a variable voltage to the gauges.

It could just be sticking a bit had it happen on my 150 Yammy, give it a squirt with some CRC/Inox lube and give it a bit of a wiggle and it should free up if it is just a bit seized. If not then you will prob need a mech.
