Trolled west end sunday morning

Sorry to report got absolutely nothing. Got there about 6:30am after a slow trip in windy, sloppy shit ocean (wasnt anything like seabreeze predicted). Pulled red head deep divers and bright pink and green jet head skirts. Didnt see any birds or pelagics feeding, trolled for about 3 hours back and forth along those demersal sancuary zone markers from the 18m line gradually out to the 30+ metre line. About 4-5 other boats doing the same. Decided to troll east along the southern side of rotto in 16 - 20m line out of the wind and waves but it was absolutely chockers with weed in there for some reason, by the time we were half way along rotto it was untrollable all lures and the teasers crammed with weed pissed us off so we went back to ocean reef pulled lures around there, weed was bad also then went home. Pretty shitty after all that effort but I guess it is still early in the Mackie season. Water temp was 21 degrees and there were heaps of flying fish around. Did anybody else have any luck out there?

That sucks - whole day of trolling for zip is one of the less enjoyable days on the water - particularly if there's weed around!

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

We were over there for crays

We were over there for crays but had a flick at some schools out off tomos, landed one striped, straightened one treble and dropped a few more.

They only stuck around for a few mins then moved and we werent there to chase them so went and found a few crays. Good fun on 10lb and they produced some pretty awsome surface strikes.

I went out on Saturday from Ocean Reef. Trolled north all the way up to the Gemini wreck. Caught a couple of small Sambos and got a double hookup on a single lure. Didn't see any tuna and no signs of bird action either.

Not much

Mon, 2013-11-18 19:08

Not as much as you would think BJ. Only a handful of boats went wide as its so early in the season.
Plus how often do you hear of that many in a day off Perth normally?? Pretty good results I would think.
Was a lot of ground covered for the weekend. Think I did about 450km over the 2 days and feeling it today.
