Tuna rigging help

Heading down south east coast of Portland in Victoria soon
just wanting to get some inside about rigging for tuna barels
is there a certain length to making the skirt trace which improves the action of the skirt ?
also when rigging the skirt with hooks
whats your thoughts on using one or two hooks ? is there a prefered method to use for skirts 8inch to 13inch ? and is this rig to be done with the same leader material or wire as ive sen few pre made done with wire but i am unsure why this is so ?
thank heaps

Tuna
Have you done any research on the lures preferred there? Most seem to be using lures up to 8" or 9" max rather than larger Marlin type lures. Have even seen big fish caught on the new 3" pakula lures when they are feeding on small baitfish.
You would be safe to rig on singles and a good trace material like momoi but no need for wire.
Everyone rigs their lures differently with longer or shorter leaders etc and also depends on if fishing to comp rules as well.

Firstly forget the wire
if you go into youtube and search for 'Portland tuna' you will find there are many clips that will point you in the right direction. Lighter leaders will generally result in more strikes as they can become leader shy. That may not help later if you are into a barrel though.

don't rule out minnows in
don't rule out minnows in your spread, the usual suspects like Halco's, Rapala's and Yo Zuri's. The lastest issue of Bluewater magazine has an article on Portland Bluefin Barrels and is a good read

you need to be quick, they
you need to be quick, they would be running through now I would think ? haven't heard anything but they usually start around april depending on the season. Caught them on diving minnows myself, but if you can find them they aren't difficult to hook. Good luck

Some barrels have bee caught
Some barrels have bee caught recently on the 40m line off Port Mac in SA so they are going through the area.
a number of smaller 10-15kg tops being caught - mainly further out along with some albacore thrown in the mix.
Skirts and divers all work at times
