Two dives on saturday
Well I woke up to a morning of no wind seas were flat ,a quick call to Uncle Kev and we were on our way to get some Bugs.We headed out to the back of the three mile 20m and anchored the boat, all geared up and into the water with a bit of a buzz in the air as all had a good feeling about this dive ,a quick check of the anchor and then of to the edge Bingo the first ledge we came to was loaded ,no need to go far right under the boat.Jesse was like a kid in a candy shop,he had a ball ,so did I.seen a few snapper and skippy plenty of wrase, and some big sting rays, time sure flys when your having fun ,time to surface.Once on board we tipped out the bags and crays were every where we ended up with 22crays 20 size kept 12,all crays were hard and were well out showing no fear.
Second dive in a little closer ,on top of the bank ,just a wreck dive and a look around seen more big rays ,wrase, snapper, queensnapper, sambo, skippy, foxfish we had a cray which the tail had near ripped of it was undersize ,we took it down and feed the fish a nice sized moray came out for a feed, very agresive or very hungry.,a top morning in the water .Uncle Max just called in and told us there is a whale dead north side of the marina ,one of the cray guys saw it yesterday of yanchep with two great whites having a feed ,glad we didn't see them ,we will be out tommorow if the weather is good .

good work guys, makes me very itchy to get in for a few asap!
Just a quick one though, why don't you measure your crays when you snare them and let them go on the spot if they're u/s? Not having a dig, just noticed a few guys doing it and wondering if there's a reason. Do the released ones spook the others if let go? Maybe that's why my catches aren't as good as everone elses.

I do tend to gauge on the way into the bag, but you do mention a very good point.
Often you have a real big one with the small ones in front, if you can't just ease the small ones out of the way with the snare you do have to loop them and release them elsewhere as they usually just cannon into the ledge where they came from and make the big ones go away.

We catch the crays and put them stright in the bag ,you can gage under water if you want to ,we gage ours on the boat ,pick out the big ones .crays release 100% so no harm done to the ones released,I guess when you have a ledge full of crays you just get carried away with it all .

yeah didn't even think of the "keeping the biggest" side of things. I'm yet to find "that" ledge so it's a nice problem to have if you can be choosy.
Fingers crossed those numbers are around in a week and a bit for when I get home.

Well done boys looks like a fun day.
I'm with you Paul catch above the bag limit and size them up on the boat and only keep the biggest and release the females when you can. Go home with bag limit you hope.

good one Paul
managed to get a few today myself, shame the PDA boat is only allowed 12 total, had to throw 2 back so everyone could share the boats combined bag limit...would have thought charter boats would have an increased limit....good for the cray stocks though i guess.
I personally found them a little sluggish today and easier to catch compared to a week ago....do you agree
have to admit i was a little concerned doing my safety stop today after yesterdays great white encounter...but cant let fear control your life hey ;)
Gooooone Fishin!

Pretty sure there is a vessel license that allows charters to take more than the rec boat limit. It would appear that PDA doesn't have one.
