You should let the media
You should let the media know.
That would scare a few people away from the sound, leaving more room (& fish) for us.

Nice, thats about where I was
Nice, thats about where I was standing when it hit, not washing my hands over the side any more.
Now something really needs to be done about this shark.. somethings going to happen soon.
If it was a yak he would have been gone.

Thats not a bad war wound
Thats not a bad war wound there john, fix it with clear gell so you can show it off.You think its the same shark all the time ? Couple of wacks in the head with the priest when it comes up to the side might discourage it,or not (might just piss it off) See if you can get some pics of the the bugger.Pretty sure the same kind of thing happens over in S Aus in the gulf they sure like the taste of pinks.

hate to say
Fishing for pinks in a yak around the sound at the moment would be a little concerning! not sure the boys in the yaks will be donging it on the head with anything...
happens all the time- fark that

i think fishing in a yak in c/sound
fishing in cockburn sound right now might be most unwise just how bad do you need to taste snapper.

yesterdays west report about shooting sharks
read in the west that norm is saying that the sharks will only be shot when they are along side a boat, hmmm now is DoF or whoever going to use a smoky on sharks just a thought safer than using a rifle or a handgun.
Also some station owners can get a licence for a handgun to protect themselves from wild bulls etc,do you think it would be possible for fishermen to get a licence for a smoky or handgun licence to protect themselves and crew from rampaging GWs Just kidding

Crazy stuff, lucky it didnt
Crazy stuff, lucky it didnt turn out any worse for you guys. Yaks? yeh nah.
Hopefully fisheries/govt are finding out if they are residents turning up every year and surely they have already tagged some of the sharks that are showing up? What better opportunity is there? those beacons would be in overdrive.

Sharks & snaps!
The Fisheries Researchers have asked me to monitor the shark/snapper issue in the Sound. They said the next step for them would be to tag the sharks...........stay tunned!!

Good work Ryan,
But obviously if they were dinkum, they would have the shark boat deployed in the sound already?
Its not exactly a secret that they frequent the sound in numbers @ this time of year, and would be the perfect chance to tag at least a few.

very puzzled
little johny, by the looks of this pic, it is mid centre of boat, not the stern not the bow. How does a white pointer open its mouth that wide to make gauge marks smack bang on the bottom of the boat. I refer to another post you made about trailer tampering, and wonder if a missing trailer roller could of caused this damage just a thought.

smiley, I was on the boat
smiley, I was on the boat when this happened.
The shark hit the boat with enough force to lift the stern and port side about 1/2 a meter and push it sideways about a meter... after it bit the boat it thrashed about then went.
The damage was not restricted to the underside of the hull, it also split the glass bonding the deck to the hull on the port side.
Pulling out bits of shark teeth out of the hull is a fair indication it was a shark???

As John is away fishing Ill
As John is away fishing Ill try and unpuzzle you Smiley. The cable to the trailer winch was cut that night, John remarked he has had experienses in the past during other snapper seasons where people have tampered with his trailer including removing rollers and wheel nuts. So all the rollers were on the trailer. The boat was hit by something whilst on anchor and it pushed the boat over a metre in the other direction, there just happened to be a large shark taking all their snapper at the same time. The next morning he was able to remove large fragments of tooth material from the marks. So the choices are
1. The trailer unhooked itself swam 5km and then found some teeth and then took a bite out of the boat
2. A large shark took a bite out of the boat.
We believe it must of been the shark because the trailer was dry when he got back.
