SW Beach closed due to Orca and White

Had a phone call from a local surfer today reporting that Yallingup beach was closed in the AM of Friday 28th Sep due to a Orca(killer whale) and a Great White being spotted just beyond the waves. The Beach has remained closed. Amazing to hear both species in such a close vicinity to eachother.

cheers,

In some parts of the world Orcas do actually feed on whites. Amazing doco on why whites were disappearing from a number of occasions.

Don't know about the orcas

Sat, 2012-09-29 13:03

Don't know about the orcas becoming a danger to mankind.  As far as I'm aware there are no reported attacks on humans by orcas apart from those in captivity.

That being said I don't know I'd want to go swimming with one just in case it wanted to play.....

I recall seeing a doco where a scientist walked into the water on a beach where Orcas come up and snatch seals off the beach and he made splashing sounds with his boots mimicking a seal pup in the shallows.  2-3 orcas came in and sat about a metre or two away watching him. They appeared more curious than anything and apparently realised he was not their normal prey.  I'd put money on an Orca being slightly more intellgent than a GW.

PS my money's on the orca  to come away with a win too.....

Now we just need to find a way to attract the orcas to metro perth.

So if it was metro area

Sat, 2012-09-29 23:20

So if it was metro area would fisheries have killed the white? Guarantee that it won't happen down here as they don't have the resources to respond. I suppose we could hope the orca got it...
