Underwater cameras
Submitted by 420casts on Wed, 2019-05-22 07:52
In the market for a camera to film on land and underwater and I've no idea about cameras or what's new and how much I will need to fork out.
I have seen GoPros and similar models and I'm after some feedback or positive reviews from any who are happy with their cameras. Basically want to film fish and snorkelling.
Cheers in advance.

Stills or video
Best compact camera is probably the Olympus TG5, shoots high quality RAW stills, 4K video and built in GPS. Good to 15m without a case.
Underwater still shots are always a slave to the amount of light in the shot, RAW allows you to make some adjustment to exposure/contrast etc, post production.

Best video is probably the GoProHero7, but you will have compromises with still shots due to the small sensor. They will be fine for screen repro & social media, but with show some faults if enlarged.
7 now has seriously good image stabilization, which is great for action video.

If you plan to go DEEP, the Olympus has an optional case to 40m or so, alternatives are
Panasonic LumixFT7, to 30m
Nikon CoolpixW300, to 30m
GoProHero6 is still a terrific camera and probably able to pick one up a fair bit cheaper than the 7, just a few less gimmicks.

nikon w300
I recently purchased the Nikon W300 for an upcoming trip and really happy with the build quality and image quality so far.
Nikon snapbridge allows you to transfer photos to your phone via bluetooth constantly, without needing to get the camera home and plugging into a PC.
The menu system is also very straight forward.
Downside is no RAW, and the lens is slightly slower than the Olympus TG5.
I think I pricematched it at JB for around $350.

Gopro7Spare battery, deep
Gopro7 .
Spare battery, deep housing, big card, camera tray, 2 big LED's on arms, large dome port and a huge stick is a good start.

Hi,
I bought this camera for landscape and diving photos
Great video and photography.
I also bought the 3m selfie stick ( which the cameras software removed automatically from photos) + the
Dive housing - good for 30m.
next thing I will be trying is to attach it to a drone.
Anyway- cant fault it after 2 months usage.
cheers

A great feature is the Gopro app, very quick wireless uploads to your phone or ipad which you can save to photos.
