Upper swan river - south guildford

Went for a fish this evening, thought the tide/moon combo was looking pretty good. Hooked and lost several tailor through bite-offs right on the sand, which was a bit of a surprise. Got about half a dozen small bream to just-under legal, however the strange thing was each cast was getting nailed almost straight away by a mystery fish which was sitting on the bait and letting go about halfway in to shore. Yep, blue-manna crabs. Literally every cast! Managed to get several close in and one up onto the shore. I've never had this problem before so far upstream - they were literally in plague proportions. Anybody else had this problem?
No sign of a mulla yet though :(

get down there with a couple of drop nets for the blueys. maybe the mystery fish was a tailor that wasnt taking the whole bait and missing the hooks but didnt want to let go in a hurry

Im 99% sure the majority of
Im 99% sure the majority of the takes were crabs and not fish by the way they were fiddling with it. Man, crabs can be a real pain ;-)
Just something i've never experienced far upstream before. Must be salty as hell! So blowfish during the day, crabs at night... pity I'm allergic to shellfish.
Had the big baits out too but yeah no runs on them, just bloody pickers constantly.
As far as tailor goes, yeah there were heaps! looked around legal too, as most threw the hooks or bit off right on the shore and didn't get to measure. There didn't seem to be too many bony herring jumping - I think mostly mullet.
