DIY....

its easy but you need to make sure the bearings are packed with the correct grease properly or they will just over heat and disintigrate..... If you can't 'thumb' the grease into the bearing then get a polythene bag and add a good glob of grease and the bearing to the bag, squeeze the air out then twist the top of the bag and work the grease into the bearing....

As the other guys said you tube it and learn as the next time a bearing collapses it could be very remote and you will have to do it by yourself....

I hope you get it sorted...

I have yet to replace my boat trailer wheel bearings DIY - and yes I have 'tubed the procedure several times but I do not have the right tool to  knock the races out.

Anyhow - point taken that each boatie should be able to do this job ...

a large flat blade screw driver a shifting spanner and a hammer ,everyone should at least carry a basic tool kit.I carry 2 spare hubs 4 sets of bearings as a minimum and usally have 1 hub packed with grease ready to just swap straight over, they are only about $30.00 new

hub

Hey scottnofish, thanks for the info, just a query: the hub packed with grease for $30 - does that include bearings?  I am presuming that it is the bearings that usually kaak it, not the hub itself?

Thanks again

 Luckily took it to Tyre

Wed, 2014-01-22 12:24

Luckily took it to Tyre Power, they are going to sort it out. Looks like its stuffed pretty bad, needs a new axle and a few other things. Ended up unloading the ski onto some foam on the floor and just took the trailer incase the wheel fell off. Definetly not a DIY job. Wonder how much it will cost...

Cheers all
