US boat import costs

Hey,
Has anyone seriously looked into shipping costs involved getting a boat from the US to Freo? The ones Im looking at are aroud 28 foot fibreglass centre console. I guess you have to allow extra length for the outboards and the front of the trailer too.
I have already emailed the boat company im looking at but in the meantime im curious if anyone else has looked into it to know if its a viable option.

few weeks ago and the boats are s... loads cheaper but i could not find anyone to ship it without crating to such a high standard the cradling was 3 times the price of the boat. Then you have to find transport to i think it was a choice of 3 ports. Got too hard in the end but i am working a friend in the U.S. to look at how easily he can get it done. I will post a report on the issues when he gets back to me.

BOATS USA
I had a look at bringing out a 2nd hand Bayliner about two years ago ,theres several shipping companies in USA that will deliver to Oz / fremantle back then for around $ 8 k mark, you had to get the boat to their yard and if it was on trailer it was easier, alot better if it went in a container, the only other thing would be import duty and travel insurance , but you certailnly could save some money. i searched on the net for sea transport out of USA and also there was also some companies on the boat web page that transported as well.

The cost of shipping was
The cost of shipping was about US$140 per meter cube 10 months ago, PLUS there are US port receiving and handling charges (will usually be lumped together). They will take the max length, width and height, which makes for alot of wasted space, best to have any windshields or t tops, dismantled. If you dispute the measurements, it will cost $400 to remeasure and if it turns out that it is more, you will be hit with the extra cubic meterage on top of the remeasure charge!
You will need a approval to import the trailer or the boat will refused entry, but that is easy and fast, takes no more then 10 days if you get on the phone.
You will need insurance which is based on the value of the boat, but they will not cover scratches and light moving damage.
GST will be based on total cost to buy and get the boat here, including land transport charges.
Port charges here are based on the landing and how many days it takes to clear.
Customs clearance 375.00
AQIS fees 175.00
AQIS inspection 125.00
If you need fumigation, which is necessary if there is ANY wood or water in it, even rain water, that will be based on cubic meters as well, but I have found the folks that do that can be negotiated. Factor in about $350 - 600.
You will need a US tax invoice for customs purposes. When you register it here you will have to pay the stamp duty, but of the entire transaction, that is the cheapest cost.
A 28 foot boat will cost quite abit.
You will see very little change from $20k, but it's likely to be more.

hexy
hexy but shop around as my wife has 4 boats to bring over all on trailers which is the first bonus, if you can pull the height of the boat down it will save you heaps straight out! and on a trailer saves you heaps there. ive got 3 quotes so far from different companies on a 26ft seaswirl hardtop and the best price so far is 18k usd not including some taxes. im still waiting on some quotes. ill post up the quotes ive been given from these diff companies so you can see the layout. good luck! thank god the missus is paying for the transport over!

Famous Pacific
Call Famous Pacific in Fremantle and they can handle the whole deal.
Expect to pay about $25k all up including having the trailer modified in Oz.
If you can ,get all the fitout done in the USA and get you're axles changed to 2.5m and the ball to 50mm.
Don't forget the brakes need to be dual disc over here.
If you're smart enough then get a new trailer to spec over there.Try Diamond Marine in Newark as they can handle the trailer.
Hard work but worth the effort.
P.M me if you want...WAZ

Re Motors
The sites I found did display the new, near new motors and they were quite a bit cheaper,BUT,I am not sure of the warranty side of it as I think they are made for the US market, but I may be wrong,a person would have to contact Yamy or Merc or Bombardier (Johnson) Australia to find out,The one I have is a 200 hp Yammy with direct injection, which my service block said was an unusual one but all the parts so far are the same jersey
