Very large boat transport

I got a mate that is looking at a 43 foot tub in NSW.

Has anyone had any experience with transport on a boat this big? Any suggestions on how to get it here? I dont think driving it over is an option, at least not with him driving it.

Rowen at Haulcraft was who I used and was very happy with. Was only a 32 footer and only 2000kms but I'm sure he could handle it.

Ship it

Talk to a shipping agent about it, sea freight is by far the cheapest method. Also I hope he's got a pen or a mooring lined up for when it gets here.

as said for something like

as said for something like that road is expensive. Youd need a truck, police escort and two pilots. Having said that we had a 49' Westcoaster trucked over (Ulladulla to freo)in 1998 but I have no idea now of the cost

Alternatives are

1/ seafreight

2/ drive it over your self

3/ get a delivery crew to bring it over (if its stern drive or petrol, not practical)

From NSW to Perth is around 2000+ miles round the south or a fair bit further (but easier) via the north

The Bight can be a scary place in a boat not designed for it and would be a mad dash in a weather window.

Small boat,

Reasonably small boat, not enough fuel carrying capacity, big trip into the weather for most of the way, not for this little duck, takes too long to get over it now days

Besides, been there done that but in a 24 metre steel boat. Would take some serious reason to consider doing it again.

 from Streaky Bay to

Wed, 2014-02-19 20:48

from Streaky Bay to Esperance is the bit to be careful, 600 mile-2 days at 15 knots.

Just a matter of sitting back and waiting for a window but not something to be taken lightly

And making sure you arent going to break down, plus a couple of bulkies on deck

Top

Going over the top is very different to going round the bottom.
Mostly light easterlies compared to westerlies in you face the whole way
